Update Softmodded wii from 4.0E to 4.2E

    Hello All

I currently have a softmodded wii that is at 4.0E and would like to update to 4.2E so that I can play a back up of Mario Galaxy 2 using NeoGamma R8. There are many guides out there and I am confused as to which I should follow as there dosen't seem to be a guide that updates 4.0E to 4.2E. I am scared that if I follow the wrong one I will mess something up.

Could some one please point me in the right direction? I have searched this forum for a guide like this and I am still unsure which to follow.

I am really sorry if this is a noob question and I hope it doesn't anoy any one! Thank you for your support guys.

    Kindest Regards

      Thanks for the help.

I ran the v4.2 safe firmware updater and it successfully updated my wii to 4.2E, thank you, however I now have a problem.

When setting up my SD card I also added Neogamma R8. Once the update was complete I was returned directly to the homebrew channel where I was able to successfully launch the back up of SMG2 using Neogamma R8. After exiting SMG2 I noticed my homebrew channel was missing from the Wii menu!!

Is there an easy way of getting this back on or do I have to treat my Wii like a Virgin Wii and follow a full 4.2E Softmod guide?

Hope someone can help and sorry for being a noob.

      Kindest Regards

I was able to solve my own problem!! (pats his own noob back)

If any one has had the same problem as described in my post above then there is no need to do a full softmod. All that needs to be done is to simply install the homebrew channel using "bannerbomb alpha v2" which can be found at the following:

        bannerbomb

The procedure should be as follows:

        1. Make a backup of your SD card then clear it.
        2. Follow the above bannerbomb guide and install Only the homebrew channel.
        3. Exit out of the HackMii installer and turn off the Wii.
        4. Clear your SD card and then re-copy the contents of your backup which was made in step one.

        That is it, done!

        Happy gaming!

I've been searching for something like this for ages! I downloaded the rar archive, and in the readme it states that different region settings could mess with the install.
I live in the UK and have a UK Wii, will updating my Wii using this method still be safe? And any possible guesses of the chances of bricking it?

Thanks a lot in advance! (:

Does the "safe firmware updater" work on PAL machines?
