Eventually took the plunge, and the Wii is now updated - thanks for the walkthrough! One thing I have noted is that games from the HDD which are NTSC are only in black and white - is there any setting I have overlooked to change this, PAL ones are in colour.

try setting your tv to auto instead of pal

the system menu could be 4.2/4.3 both have tuts here

Myhomebreware NOT SO GREAT

Every article I read said Myhomebreware was number 1.
I have been unable to install it so far. Emails the past 3 days asking for help have been unanswered. Claims it can be installed in 5 minutes. By who? Certainly not me. If I don't get suport soon I will request refund.

OK...Here is my situation..."we" (our daughter) has 2 wii's, one is a 4.2 & has been modded using CK-OK 4.2 mod instructions, the other is a second-hand unit & is 4.3e & has now been modded using CK-OK 4.3e instructions.
Using the same hard drive (and tv) for both machines...on the 4.2 mod the ntsc games are in colour,swapping over the h/d to the 4.3e conversion wii, the same ntsc games are in black and white.... it seems the 4.2 conversion automatically plays colour but the 4.3e does not. Any suggestions how to overcome this? Our tv is one of the 'old' types and does not have an 'auto' setting.

PS On a lighter note, daughter way prefers the 4.3 mod menu system etc, compared to the 4.2!

go into wii settings and check tv settings 50hz /60hz are same as the 4.2

Thanks for the clear explanation of installing HomeBrew. I followed the instruction till formatting the SD-kart for the second time. Then I have to open an .exe file but it was not in the download. Where can i find it??

the exe. file is in the modpack extract the modpack to the sd card and you will see it on the sd card

Just a quick question about the serial number on the back of the Wii as i've read somewhere about some Wii's with certain serials not being able to have a softmod.

Our serial starts LEH2242
