what gig ps3 have you got? i assume its a 60g? as its a common fault with the blueray drive fault


this wont fix your problem , you either need to ring sony or get another blueray drive and fit it yourself , easy fix m8

Funny that how people often say their PS3 died after an update or that the update bricked their PS3, yet I've never had a problem and I update the firmware every single time there is one available. Saying that though I have a 40gb console that was bought second hand so it's hardly ancient but it's not exactly brand spanking either though but point is I've never had a problem with updates or the Blu-ray drive and I've had my console for almost a year now, I don't know how long the person before me had it but I've never had a problem with mine.

Which leads me to believe some people are either blowing out of proportion or are just unlucky. Which is okay because I'm unlucky with Xbox 360's, I've had 2 bought new and neither of them lasted longer than a year - my launch model RRoD'd within a year and my recent 360 has the tray drive problem where it won't open - never had the E74 error, obviously haven't needed it - I'm sure they don't actually fix the problem, rather just rename the chip to Falcon or Jasper and just say that it's fixed when it clearly isn't. I swear that 360 has more faults than Adolf.....

Far better off not opening the case and trying this if you dont know what your doing, at least that way you can sell your console as unopened and faulty and get a reasonable amount of money for it then buy a new console and get warranty.

Most people fixing these like this will get the same problem again, and if you decide then to sell it and get a new one you'll get less for it as its been opened and messed with, and you'll be down the cost of the heatgun.

Also if you are going to do this do not rest the board on the cpu/gpu and heat the back up, because if you manage to get the solder balls hot enough to reflow (which is the whole point) then the pressure of the board will flatten and short out the solder balls.

I managed to repair as launch model 60gb PS3 using this tutorial last night.

It's fairly straight forward, just take your time.

I am a newbe & can a newbe do this fix. If it is too much for me, can someone help me?

Yes it worked for me but i bypassed the fan as well so the fan is on full speed .been playing it for two weeks now .in total over 30 hours . so far so good it's cost about ?30 all the best if you try this

you can buy all the bits from Maplins and there are videos on Youtube,just type in YLOD and go from there.Good luck with it.Dont forget to look on there about bypassing the fan as well.
