Another newbie with a 9760

just got one of these and I think I must be a bit thick, am only getting the normal rubbish I get from my old FTA box but after reading a bit on here I assume I must update the firmware before it becomes all singing and dancing?

yes m8 you need to flash your box via a usb stick and connect to your network. regards mdt

heres a copy of fimware V1.16 for a protek 9760 HD and a channel list to get you going both need unzipping 1st.
the channel list "0000" is my pesonal preferences so may not be to your taste,once loaded press "ok" then the blue button to bring the "bouquets"up.
But be aware that like the spiderboxes channels come and go and not all bouquets are fully open all the time.

I meant to add that I am on fixed dish at the moment bringing in hotmail and astra 19.2

are you getting fta channels on 13 and 19.2E when you press menu on preferences do you have the "boris"logo.I"ll sort out a 2 sat channel list for you to try.there is not much open on 13E(except XXX) but lots on 19E.as suggested by ebmitie have you set up the box for 2 sat switching.
the channel list enclosed is just for 13E&19.2E some bouquet channels are on fav1 & fav2 the rest should be found pressing "ok" followed by the blue button.

OK heres the update.....don`t laugh...I thought I had hotbird and astra but after a bit of fiddling about it seems I have astra and eurobird on 23.5.....it is a motorised dish but it has siezed so am going to get someone out to look at it but at the moment I can get all the free to air including HD on 23.5

Its hard for me to know if my protek is decoding anything else as I don`t know what is meant by the bouquet????
(thought that was flowers LOL)

I would appreciate it if one of you guys could give me an idiots guide to ensure I do this properly and tell me a couple of channels that I should be getting if the box is set up properly.

What channel list did you install? there is not much open on 23.5E but 3 film channels on 12.129 V 27500(one is HD) should be there.they are on fav1 on the 0000 channel list
when you press the "ok" button followed by the blue button you should see a drop down with a list of the "bouquet"(group of channels) that are available IF the sats have been scanned in.the channel list 0000 I posted will be the most use to you once the motor is sorted.even so the "bouquet"list should show even though you cant send the dish anywhere at the moment.
to check your setup ok press menu and in the bottom right of the panel the latest key number should be there its 0.1.116X at the moment and it should have auto updated to this when you turned the box on you should also have the "Boris T" logo showing if you patched the box with the V16 firmware ok.
I"ve done a quickset up guide if its any use.
also any firmware updates are supposed to be automatic but are not always,so its worth checking the Boris site every now and again. BorisT Info&Downloads

I've used the Boris T software for my 9760ip, and so far, delighted. All the packages seem to update regularly as well as the bouquets. Yes it has all the adult stuff, but for me where it scores (no pun intended) is on the great sports coverage, particularly football. Can't always find it in English, but I want to watch the games, not listen to someone tell me how they'd prepare a team anyway, so works well for me
