I was wondering if anyone in the uk has bought or used this receiver.
It seems to be a direct rival to the duo2 along with the xtrent 10000 and other high end receivers that look like hitting the market (in germany at least) very soon.
For me, i'm looking to move on from my original solo2 and go for a receiver with a little more flexability. This Xpeed LX3 fits the bill nicely.
Red apple will be selling it at ?350 and if you wish to take a punt direct with german suppliers you could get the receiver delivered for with 4 tuners (2 x sat, 2x dvb-c/t) which for a high end receiver seems a very good deal.
When comparing it with the gigablue quad plus it has a few significant advantages:
The processor is more powerful hinting at better perfomance with startup, plugins, handling tuners possibly? Although the drivers, software support and bootloader would probably more significant in that regard.
It has HDMI-IN allowing you a little more flexability in your home a/v setup. I think the hdmi feature if implemented as i believe may allow to record/rip the hdmi stream to hard drive.
Hardware transcoding looks to be implemented like the duo2. (The review on amazon.de seems to give good rating on this)
Price wise too, you seem to get more bang for your buck with the LX3 than gigablue quad+.
Now on the downside, I would say there's probably less support available for the box although i'm just saying that based on my very limited experiance coming across these brand names. It may well be the XPeed LX3 does have good support following in germany/austria etc.
Gigablue does seem to be the fancier machine too with it's front display in color and availability in gloss white - although for me at least, this is quite trivial.
Quite important is the gigablue quad does have seem to have a significant userbase in the uk providing feedback and reviews on how it's progressing.
Having read many google translated German reviews on the Xpeed LX3 from german forums and amazon.de, i have lerned that this receiver which was only released April 2014, seems to be a major hit in terms of what your getting for the price. It has like most new receivers suffered from a few teething problems and bugs. The biggest problem being the menu and OK button stop functioning at random times! Leaving the box unusable until rebooted or controlled via webif/smartphone. The german users are awaiting driver updates which are supposed to be arriving very soon and will address this issue.
On the whole, the mood on the few german forums i've read and hopefully understood, seem to give this receiver a thumbs up so far, with most features working well (a good sign for a new receiver) including gigabit LAN (although some had issues with router compatibility). The main problem is the ok and menu button stop working but a driver fix has been promised and the other common complaint is the boot time - up to 57 seconds - apparently a poor bootloader could be to blame ?
It would be nice to see vix or blackhole provide images for the receiver in the future because if the LX3 becomes successful - it definately seems to be a very good alternative to the duo2.
I'm torn between the lx3 and the gigablue quad+. The lx3 has the better processor, and h/w transcoding along with hdmi-in feature. The GB quad plus has the images i would want to run and more information and support in english. I might just wait a while until more information can be provided on this receiver.
