Golden Interstar Xpeed LX3 with 2-4 tuners

Well I received my Golden Interstar Xpeed LX3 Thursday about noon but unfortunately it was my Grandson's Birthday so I was not allowed to play with it till about 9pm
I soon got it up and running as it was pre-loaded with Vix Apollo 3, I have to say it is rather fast on par or maybe better than my Solo2 never thought I would ever say that but it really is fast
The only concern that I had was the Remote as it's the same one as the Miraclebox, but to my surprise it is rather responsive probably more to do with the Superior Processing power of the LX3
and strangely now I rather like it, all I have to set up now is the Picons and get the Cable side Fully Working, I fitted a 1TB Toshiba 2.5" Hard Drive in it but it will also take a 3.5" Drive
I might just Check out a 2 or 3TB 5000 rpm Drive as they will be cheaper than a 2.5" but one thing that I noticed is that DVB-S2 Tuner 3 "C" runs rather warm and it is not connected at the moment
I will probably see about fitting an extra Fan near the Tuners to keep them cool
The front Display is really clear far better than the Solo2 but probably not as good as the Duo2's but I like it
So their we have it I am very pleased with it and seeing that it is a rather new receiver I think it is going to take a lot of sales away from the Duo2 & Gigablue Quad Plus

Hi, i currently have a duo 2, and it has 2gb ram and flash, but in system memory its reported as 1gb for ram and just below 1gb for flash ? of total memory thats why i was wondering what it is on LX3Comment

Thats the problem with the VU+ at a guess i would say they could have done something similar to what they did with the Ultimo which i own that has 1GB nandflash but only 512mb is usable the other half was reserved for future use, But seeing as they dont make the Ultimo for European users now it would be great if they allowed the other 512mb to be released for use by Image makers

It appears that I am not alone in waiting for something in-between the Solo2+ & the Duo2+ (due to the expense of the Duo2+). Then, like Birmingham's No.1 bus route (Jasper Carrot joke) 2 come along together.
I have posted my position at http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-fancy-427527/ when I recently joined, so I won't repeat it here.
There were many things that interested me about the very helpful exchanges.
Has anyone done a comparison between the start-up times of the LX3 & the Quad Plus? 52 seconds for the LX3 sounds a lot to me?
As a complete newbie, will inserting a 3.5" internal drive in either machine be easy? Is it obvious where to connect the 2 connections?
Is adding an additional DVB/C/T tuner easy? I have watched a German video on YouTube & it looks a bit fiddly.
Are there any other considerations?Comment

I have both the Solo2 and the LX3 they are both Excellent receivers, the Build Quality of the Solo2 is far superior to the LX3 but you get a lot of machine for your money with the LX3
Fitting Hard Drives to both machines is easy probably better to fit in the Solo2 as it only takes 2.5"Drives, where the LX3 takes either 2.5" or 3.5" so I bought a adaptor plate to fit my 2.5"Hard Drive
but you could probably get away without one though, and the Solo2 Dose have Rubber Grommets to isolate the Drive from the carrier to cut down vibration and noise
but I have never noticed any noise from either of the 2.5" Toshiba 1TB Drives that I have fitted in both
Changing tuners in the LX3 is also very easy I have just replaced the DVB/C/T2 Tuner back in to my LX3 as I have just sold my Miraclebox Premium Twin and I had them both fitted in that
and yes the LX3 uses the same Tuners and Remote control as the MBPTwin so do not do like I did and try and use both in the same room as the MB remote will operate the LX3
I am waiting Delivery of a Duo2 tomorrow I only want the 2 Sat tuners in it for the time being and will probably fit another 2 DVB-S tuners after I get to grips with it
But if the build Quality is anything like the Solo2 I will be a Happy Chapy
I just did a boot test from switching on at the back the Solo2 took 38 seconds and the LX3 took 66 seconds I did them both Twice and where within 2 seconds each
but I suppose that you are only going to Boot it up once and on paper 30 seconds more than the Solo2 seems a lot but you have to remember that
the Solo2 is the FASTEST BOOTING RECEIVER ON THE PLANET and I do not think that you will get one faster
But in the real world the LX3 is a very capable Quad Receiver and it is very fast when you are using it in the real world
I had a 1000cc motorbike that would do 170mph and another that would do 160mph I have now got a Triumph that will be lucky to hit 110mph but it gets me their just as fastLast edited by nsw9154; 3 July, 2014, 14:06.Comment

That's really helpful, on many fronts. Thanks.
I suppose that my remaining question is whether I can justify the extra cost of the LX3, compared to the Gigablue Quad Plus+? When I add in the extra costs of the additional tuner & the hard drive I am already over budget. Is the LX3 really worth it?Comment

In my Personal view yes the LX3 is a very good machine for the price but it is up to the individual and I am bias because I have one
but I never thought that I would ever Sell my Solo2 for a Duo2 but I have, I loved the Solo2 But after buying the LX3 I needed the Flexibility and the options of 4 tuners
and for me their was only one other machine that would beat the Solo2 and that was the Duo2 I hope I have made the right choice time will tellComment

Nobody comments on the Gigablue Quad Plus+. That's not to say anyone has anything bad to say about it. It's just that no-one says anything good either.Comment

The next question is who/where to buy from? World Of Satellite gets lots of publicity from its forum but does not appear to sell through Amazon. Radtv (96%) & Rockdale (92%) both do. For a newbie like me, somewhere with helpful after sales service is always helpful. If it has any relevance, I live in Birmingham.Comment
