Timeouts, invalid key lenghts, tried every single type of network type with the router and none work - going to ask for a refund on the wifi part of the sale.

And I used to be a pc tec so it is not the settings, dodgy firmware to me, although i've tried lots.

Works fine on cable but can't use box as a server for some reason.

I am mot a techie..but did read somewhere that skybox can only be used as a client and cant be used to used as a server...i guess you might need one of em dreamboxes with open source linxus.

Dude log into router..go to wireless then to security tab there you will find security mode or encryption and in that dropdown menu select wpa or wpa2..what ever is available..leave the multiple options like wpa/+wpa2 or wes/wpa alone then press apply change.

look for just one..and select it...and have a go again connecting...u might need to re start your router for the settings to take effect..

if it still does not work...can u list here the options it gives you when choosing the security mode..!!

Heres a link explaining how to change the settings

Does the Router support Wireless Protected Access (WPA) security?
The Router ships with WPA/WPA2 security turned on. Windows XP and some older network hardware may require a software update to support WPA/WPA2.
I am having difficulty setting up WPA security on my Router.
                              1. Log in to your Router by visiting http://router/ with your web browser. Click on the ***8220;Login***8221; button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. You will be asked to enter your password. If you have never set a password, leave the ***8220;Password***8221; field blank and click ***8220;Submit***8221;.
                              2. Click ***8220;Wireless***8221; in the left-hand menu. Then click ***8220;Security***8221; just below that.
                              3. Select the ***8220;WPA/WPA2***8221; option.
                              4. Enter a password. This can be from 8***8211;63 characters of your choice, including spaces and punctuation, OR a 64-digit hexadecimal number (using only the numbers 0***8211;9 and letters A***8211;F).

My router has Authentication/encryption as wpa-psk...try selecting that and then you might get the option of wpa and wpa2 seperately in your security mode

This is how it looks like on my router:

                                Security

                                Broadcast Network Name:Yes
Allow New Devices:New stations are allowed (automatically)
                                Security Mode:WPA-PSK
                                WPA-PSK Preshared Key:xxxxxxx
                                WPA-PSK Encryption:AES
                                WPA-PSK Version:WPA2
