Probably because satellite receiver hardware does not move on as quickly as say Plasma/LCD/LED, you just have to have a look at what has happened in 3 years in broadcasting for home viewing changes.

The Release of FreeviewHD & FreesatHD, 3D passive and Active, BBCi player & Netflix etc..., Plasma and LCD and LED technology DLNA and media palyback and probably the next big one OLED the list goes on.

As for sat receivers the Duo has been out for nearly 4 years and since that time nothing has really changed apart from everyone wanting to run them like Home theatre components and play back every single video file known to man, The only real major change that i see that will benefit in the future is the dropping of E2 and the move over to XBMC software

You don't need cable ties, blu tack, or cradles, the cradle that is already in can take either 2.5 or 3.5, you screw the screws into the bottom of the harddrive as opposed to the sides as you would on a pc...

yes but the duo ships with the standard 3.5 cradle which does not line up with the 2.5 drives, the uno and ultimo ship with a dual 2.5 / 3.5 cradle to fit both size drives.

Would be interested to know how you got on with this. Which of Amazons merchants did you use?

                So this is 299Euros + 23.50Euros shipping???

Also do you have confirmation that the German supplier (Amazon.de in this case I assume) will definately honour a 2yr guarantee if bought in the UK.

Something thats been out there for a while is the EU directive on goods bought here in the UK. Not sure - but we all could be covered anyway.
                See this:
                Two-year-warranty-EU-law
There have been cases where UK Apple owners have used this law to get things fixed after 1yr.
Hence they changed their UK T&C's:
Apple (United Kingdom) - Legal - Apple Products and EU Statutory Warranty
So you might be covered for 2yrs for any purchases here anyway - provided you report it within a set period and you can prove you've not been d*cking around with it (difficult with an item where you open the top cover to insert a hard-drive I know).

I paid 310 Euros which came in at about ?260 including delivery. I'm not 100% sure about the 2 year warranty but according to various people on here and elsewhere it is sound. Its 3-4 working days delivery so should be here on Thursday.

If your worried about warranty then give Ian a ring at Red apple Digital they are the cheapest for the Duo's no clone's either and i am pretty sure he honours the 2 year warranty one of the only UK suppliers who do.

Hmmmm Its a nice price to be sure.
Checked with the guy, who got straight back to me.
The price shown is UK stock with 1yr warranty. Its more expensive for the german sourced units with 2yr warranty.
                      Good price mind.

He only added it last night m8. He emailed me to tell me he'd put it on his site after my question about the 2yr guarantee. You probably saw the 2yr stuff on another forum or his current eBay items

My Vu+ Duo arrived on Thursday morning from Amazon.de. I'm really pleased with it works perfect, black remote and fully english manual.

IMO it was a bargain at ?260 delivered in three days and with 2 year warranty.

I got it up and running with Vix 2.4 and am really pleased with the outcome great box. I put a Samsung 3.5" 1TB HDD in and it is really quiet and I've got a Sandisk USB also connected for the EPG and Picons.

Only wish I had taken the plunge sooner.

The place of sale is not necessarily the UK, or Germany, you need to get into Amazon's T&Cs to find out where it is. Amazon.co.uk is the trading name of Amazon Srl registered in Luxemburg, sales are usually in Luxemburg for tax mitigation reasons. Amazon.de is also a trading name of Amazon srl. You are contracting with exactly the same company on both sites.

The only difference is when Amazon are not the seller. Amazon act as an introducer to other parties under participation agreements which mean that you may be contracting with another party not associated with Amazon. In this case your contract is with the third party but you still benefit from Amazon's policy for conflicts etc.

The 2 yr warranty under EU legislation covers all EU countries. It has been adopted by the UK. A UK company cannot contract out of it to offer a lower term, neither can any other company registered in the EU.

If you pay using a credit card issued by UK licensed bank you are also protected by s75 of the Consumer Credit Act which means you can claim directly from the card company. You do not need to sue the supplier as in UK law the Bank is seen as jointly liable. To put it simply you sue the UK bank in a UK court and do not have to worry about pursuing an overseas company.

If you can buy something on the German Amazon site cheaper I would go for it. You have plenty of protection and Amazon act as a responsible company.
