How to JTAG a DM500

Morning guys...

Can anyone help me on how to use the Jtag without soldering the cables on the PCB? I have to fix about 10 boxes, so that would be hard to do so..

dear friends, my dm500s just went blank 2 days ago, when i powered it up nothing shows on the tv screen, no response from remote,
only the green power LED on dm500s front panel is ON now.
( i was using the older version of gemini, not the virus version)

so i thought a simple dreamup re-flash via serial would solve it, i was wrong!!!
dreamup does not load anything, it just shows waiting for acknowledge..
and hangs there forever.

i even tried hyperterminal and this is all i got.




so i tried omars method by removing the front panel cable and shorted the pins using a pin jumper ...



and after i shorted the pins i was able to get this on hyperterminal




and i managed to successfully flash working image using dreamup,

now here is the problem, after successfully flashing the image
i removed the jumper pin and slotted back the front panel cable into it
and hooked to my tv, but nothing shows on tv.

so what i did, i again removed the front panel cable and slotted the jumper pin
back and hooked dm500 to my tv, and only then it worked and gemini project screen appeared on my tv screen, and i managed to see all my satellite signals were detected (but my ethernet port does not work!!) i have lights on my dm500s ethernet port and also the lights were on my 4 port switch. but the ethernet port does not detect dhcp ip and does not reply to
manual input ip!!

it looks like my dm500s will not boot or show anything on tv screen without me leaving the jumper pin there permanently!

please do i have to jtag it now??

Today i am going to try to JTAG my DM500 (clone) and i have read the whole thread and found out that shahjees is giving very good instructions on how to repair the box without the use of JTAG. Has anyone really tried this before? Is it really working? If so, is it true about the box not operating without the jumper??? And finally the BIG question...

How the hell is it possible for the box to boot-up and allow you to flash with a new image if there is NO booloader inside. Gemini (not exactly Gemini but the libraries of the CVS) is supposed to wipe the bootloader and as far as i know, the images do not contain any bootloaders.. So????

I think i will give it a try this evening and post a feedback in here...

have rescued recently my DM500C with NXT tuner

I keep testing Gemini 4.4 with different MAC addresses 00:09:34... on my box, but everytime the clone bomb checker tells me "Potential risk clone bomb..." I did also use my neighbour MAC address, without luck

Does any1 has an idea how to work around this, if at all? I know, do not use Gemini, but at the moment I am dependet on it...

i connected jtag to box (dreambox 500-s)
then ran prog
clicked connect at same time as powering on box
nothing happens
help please.

Hi Tango,

You need to try many time, while connecting the program and power up the box. It needs to have the perfect timing, just try it, do not loose hope. I have been trough the same...

how to repair time bomd by usen't Jtag.
Can i Hare Reset by jumping ROM or CPU for reset it.

well i managed to get the bootfloader flashed with the JTAG , timing been the key to this.problem now is it still doesnt connect to dreamup.dreamup see's the box when i turn he power on but the bar doesnt move .
ive tried with network connected and not connected and RS232 on its own (works fine with my other box).
anyone know how to solve this problem even though i have written a new bootloader to the box ?.

I have got a 500s and the jtag points (see piccie) 1 (TDO) and 7 (TCK) are gubbed
looks like the copper has been lifted of the spots so i cant solder the wires to these two points
is there anywhere else i can use to solder the 2 wires to thanks.

Did you menage to work with front panel cable or still work just with jumper.
I have same problem like you and I made to jtag box but receiver still work just with jumper and not with front panel cable.
I think there is power problem.

Now I'm having a problem with an original DM500 with a philips tuner.
For some unknown reason the boot when OFF.
I flashed it with the bootloader for philips tuners but in the end I can get a connection with the dreamup in order to send it an image.
The only way to get a recognition by the dreamup is with a boot loader that gives me the infromation it is a DM56xx but after loading the image (which takes a lot of time) the dream powers up but I can get i clear image, just a lot of horizontal and vertical tiny lines in black and white.
I put an image of the tuner.
My question is:
-Which bootloader must I use to get it working again?

Trying to jtag a dm500 -S with a alps tuner(BSBE1-706A) back to life using jtag windows as the chip is a TE28F640 J3C120 and i have read i cant use the dos way it connects and seems to flash ok (see piccie) i then close jtag windows power off the box remove the connection from the pc but when i power the box back up i get no green lcd light..nothing i try dreamup with nullmodem cable but just sits there not connecting even if i power on or of the box.
Do you reckon it might be the wrong bootloader(blimg) i am using i tried the ones in the d/loads or is there something else i need to be doing.

Managed to get a different bootloader(blimg) and it seems to have worked as i have green lcd light and i can now get dreamup to connect it

I thought I had jtagged my bootloader ok on a clone dm500c with the Dos software as it had a philips tuner option built into the software but although the image flashed on ok I was unable to find any scanning options at all, so I presevered with the Windows version for which I managed to find a 'c' version of 'blimp' all is working well now. Obviously the Dos version only carries the bootloader built in for the Sat Philips tuner.
