I am off becuase of what you lot are posting -

It is not illegal - as it stands today. It is not a tax.

this is progress people, this is trying to change society, this trying to change people who sit on their arse and live of the state! It is not designed to catch people out, there will be people who suffer, but that will be for the greater good!

No one is getting rich or making money out of this! Rents are not going up! Landlords are not making money.

Why on earth should a single person live in a 3 or 4 bed house and recieve more housing benefit than a family of 5 who live in a 2 bed house? How is that fair when it is paid for by the state? If the person wants to live their then okay, but they pay the extra!!

how is it unfair = nobody has given any justified reason, except that they cannot afford it, well wakeup!! They can!! They CHOOSE not too!! It is ?11, ?24, or ?29 - based on teh number of rooms that are free.

If you dont like it move!! Let a family in cramped acoomodation move into your spacious property! Lets no moan, if you cant pay on benefits, get a job, get a lodget, do something yourself, dont rely on others, dont rely on the state, dont rely on me!

I have heard crap about lodgers! when my sister broke up with her fella, she had to pay the mortgage, what did she do - got a lodger!! DONT TELL ME ITS UNFAIR!!! IT IS REAL ACCOUNTABLE LIFE PEOPLE!!!!

Oh I see. What's your criteria and test for those then? Leave them in a room with a dozen razorblades and see which one slashes their wrists first, or slashes the other persons wrists. Mental illness is not something that anyone sat in an office can diagnose, that's what doctors are for.

And way off topic, but taking a shot at easy targets is just that. People with mental illnesses are ill, unless you're a trained doctor it's not something that should be laughed off.

And doctors can and do make the ultimate decisions on DLA.. My ex wife had an aortic valve replacement and was awarded DLA for a time . after about three years she had to go to the social in Aston and be assessed by a doctor..

Very sad. Really sad, and I am sorry that you had to suffer. Things change, situations always change, and although not getting into specifics the doctor would of made an assesment at that point in time. Also, mistakes happen, sometimes wth disastrous consequences.

Was it due to the brain problem btw, or someting unrelated?

As with most things we can all pull extreme examples of situations where this is wrong or right.

The crux of the matter is, the state is paying rent on council houses that do not justify the basic need of the recipent. The council tenant is being treated differently to that of a private tenant. This will bring them in line with the rest of the housing benefit receiving community.

Are you suggesting that we should now consider opening up private tenants to receive the full amount? Who will pay for this?

Of course there are cirumstances to this that need to be ironed out, and anyone with enough sense can see that genuine sick and disabled should be exempt, but there are certain illnesses that could and should work.

Its not going to be easy, but something done is better than nothing done in my opinion

Just a quick point about the ATOS assessors,

they aren't doctors they are Physio-therapists,

and there lies my problem,
I could not tell if someone has adequate mobility to work,

so why does a physio think they can assess someone with a mental illness.

within the mental health act, we use a section 2, this is a 28 day section to assess someones mental state,
so how can a Physio-therapists assess someone in ten minutes when it takes a mental health professional 28 days.

I can only see the mental hospital filling up very quickly, post April 1.

Jason I am very sorry to hear of your Sister Pal. RIP,

Unfortuately she is not the only one that has been passed Fit by ATOS/DWP and either died or taken their own life.

Thats enough from me. Puts it all into perspective that.

well its like everything else you only hear the bad. good stuff rarely makes the news.

ive always said some people not all people. i only go on the people i know personally. ie partners ex. she says she suffers depression (dont we all hunny) and cant work. she does nothing to get help with it and is happy to sit on her arse for the next 20 yrs and get paid benefit. my other halfs family who dont work and have no intention. one 29yr old nephew says he cant read and write but called the other night wanting help with the internet! i wont help people who wont help themselves. a little come and go goes a long way

however a friend of his has Buerger disease and he is a poor soul. he was getting no help etc. ive never met this man but have called social services and tried my best to get him help. ive found out today he is not on the high care element of dla and i will be making a few calls tomorrow.

trust me im anything but high and mighty on my salary .

believe me i complain re things coming into effect all the time. universal credit for 1 i must have sent dozens of emails to the heirarchy that are so out of touch its unbelievable and embarrassing.

my ex husband has had 2 double heart valve replacements. never got dla. got incap. then esa then nothing. he has now been working for 2 years and is prob fitter than me.

so sorry for your loss. in cases like that id complain to the highest authority i could. i too have heard many horror stories and even been in tears empathising.
