About an hour ago the IPCC said there was no evidence that Mark Duggan had fired his weapon. 1 officer fired two shots, one killed Duggan and the other hit his arm, passed through it and ended up in the radio of the other officer.
The bullet found in the Police radio was Police issue and was fired from a Police issue gun - the same gun that killed Duggan.Comment

He did have a gun, that cannot be denied, but that shouldn't cost you your life. It seems there is no evidence that this guy shot at the police at all.
The gun was BBM bruni self loading pistol and is not a replica, it's a prohibited weapon and illegal, the handgun had a bullet in chamber and seems not to be have fired.
I know that the exact area where he was killed had been under police surveillance for over 36 hours prior to the shooting. It seems the police were looking for him, it wasn't a chance meetComment

I've no problem with that sentiment, but I just think it would have been better if it were possible to arrest this guy rather than kill him provided it did not put any policeman's life at risk. We don't have shoot to kill policy at the moment. The CO19, British Firearms unit are highly trained for these exact situations. At the moment unconfirmed reports are that the CO19 state they shot because a member's life was threatened. That needs to be confirmed.
The real issue here is did CO19 feel intimidated, felt they were about to be harmed, or feel they were about to lose a life. If so waste him.Last edited by Lyrrad; 9 August, 2011, 19:13.Comment

A marksman is capable to shot a man in hands or legs at will.
Those police officers they are marksman, they shot the man in the heart, does that mean they were not shooting to kill.
We should all have to look at the respect we give to our police officers, just imagine if any of those killers intended to kill the police officers they do not have to wait for marksman to exchange the bullets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a planning of the operation to kill just admit IPCC.
When our Govt is going to change the law not to shot to kill.
UK riots could cost taxpayer well over ?100m????..
What lesson we are going to learn from this.

About time the Police fired first. I get pissed off reading the rules of engagement. Having spent 24 years in the Armed Forces and having been put in positions where you're up against armed enemy you'd cringe if you read the rules. The enemy can empty a magazine of rounds at you but if he turns his back or drops the weapon you can't return fire. Bollocks to that. If you're carrying a gun you're open season in my books.
As for shootng the gun out of his hand etc. Thats for Holywood.Comment

If the guy pulled a gun on armed cops then yes I don't think its unreasonable to accept that his death was pretty much on the cards. However if the cops just knew he was armed it's a very different thing. At the moment we just don't know the circumstances.About time the Police fired first. I've heard that the rules of engagement for Brit forces in Afghan in the very early days were just bizzare, surely it's different nowComment
