can money make you a big club?? .i.e Man City?

whats your views on this? definition of a big club? weird one really as if its european trophys then Forest are bigger than arsenal etc.. if its fan base and trophies old firm are in there.. but with Man City now able to buy practically anyone do they now have the rights to be considerd a big club?
I mean Chelsea now are thought on as a top 3 club in england however 15 years ago they werent? suppose will be the same with city in 5 years?
    Any Views?

For the record my top clubs 5 clubs in UK in terms of my idea of a big club...

    (in no order)

Man Utd, Celtic, Rangers, Liverpool, Arsenal, my views are based on worldwide fan base, success, history etc.. any views on this?

Ignoring the troll. If your talking domestically then a big club is measured by the amount of success they have consistently achieved. Man city will no doubt be up there challenging in future seasons because of the vast amount of money they now have. If another club becomes a Billionaires play toy then they will challenge too.

The top four in England in recent years need no mention. Spurs are one of those clubs that have a good season every few years and i think next year they will finish outside the top Five. Celtic and Rangers dominate Scottish football and always have done but rarely do well in Europe, i dont think you can compare them to English teams because they play in a different League.

Are Man City a big club? No. They are rich and have the means to become successful and a big club but right now they are not a big club.

        THE TRUTH
        The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

in england, its us and "them"... we are streets ahead of the next best.. ie. arsenal, everton, villa, chelsea and spurs... the rest ?? way behind...but this is only after 140 years of footy...still got till saturday before the world ends!!!!!!
seriously, those clubs above will always be the"big" ones... you get the odd exceptions over the years..forest, man city, blackburn etc.. but they are rare and dont last really..
weather money can make you a really "big" club?? come back in 5, 10, 15 years time!!
what amazes me is that a team like b/ham city, from the "2nd" city has only won 3 trophies...less than preston burnley, derby etc...
as for scotland well... rangers,celtic.... end of. same in spain...
think thats why i would love to see celtic and rangers in an english league set up. wont happen but that is the only way they will know if they are good enough...
also the powers that be in europe, want a european league, hence the c/l and e/l..in a few years time we "will" have one, i am sure...
sorry to ramble on, but there's only 1 more match till august so getting me 1d's worth in....

not sure if the troll thing was aimed at me?

im not talking in terms of current squads and football ability.. im talking in terms of size, bottom line if celtic and rangers went into the prem, they would easily hold their own within 3-5 years. and in terms of worldwide fan base both would dwarf the bulk of the epl outwith the likes of liverpool, man uted..

Money will always make any club a big club. Not right away since big players want trophy's not just money. Just look at Kaka he didn't want to go to Man City. I think any pro sports league should always have a salary cap.

it's an impossible question to answer, as everyone will have a different idea of what constitutes as big, is it down to fan base, trophy success, financial clout, ground size, etc,
Leeds used to be classified as a big club, but are they still ?
does a club have to be supported worldwide to be big, look at Atletico Madrid, probably Spain's third biggest club but would you class them as big on a world stage,
I personally take no notice of the so called worldwide fan base thing, most so called foreign supporters will wear a clubs shirt as a fashion statement rather than a football statement, I've always looked at football as a local tribal thing, and on that basis, Man city would be bigger than united as they have a bigger Mancunian fan base

I think if you just went on clubs in the prem, season to season the big 5 should be classed as the big five, thats why we have league table and where you finish goes in order of how good you have been that season so my look at it is the higher you finish the bigger the club you are, but hey thats just my opinion,

Clubs can be made big by money but that doesnt make them big clubs in my opinion.History and fans are what make big clubs.Im a Leeds fan and they will always be a big club in a lot of peoples opinions because of their past and I think Rangers and Celtic would survive in the premier league in time.
