Forlan eyes Prem return

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has admitted he would be interested in a move back to the Premier League.

Forlan had an unsuccessful stint with Manchester United earlier in his career, when it took him eight months to score his first goal for him the club and he left after just two-and-a-half years.

However, he has gone on to become one of the most feared forwards in the game since switching to Spain in 2004, enjoying a prolific three-year spell with Villarreal before joining Atletico.

Forlan helped fire Atletico to Europa League glory last season and has been tipped to dazzle with Uruguay at the World Cup this summer.

A series of good performances at international level will only fuel speculation that has already surfaced about his club future, with Forlan now hinting that he has unfinished business in England.

The 31-year-old maintains that he was happy at Old Trafford and would be willing to return to the Premier League if an agreement could be reached that suits all parties.

Offer

"If there is an offer and it's good for Atletico and good for me I would be really happy to go back to England. But it will have to be good," he said.

"If a big chance to return to England came up, I would have to look at it. I loved my time in English football - the people, the fans, the football, everything.

"I wasn't sad the way it ended at United to be honest. I was really happy during my time there and thank the people at United for how they treated me.

"During my period there I learnt a lot of things and had a good relationship with everyone. The reason I left was because I didn't have the chance to play as regularly as I wanted.

"Now I have the chance to play regularly the way I wanted and I am really happy I'm doing that."

Fergie praise
Forlan has also paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson for the way the Manchester United manager looked after him and helped his development.

"The way he treated me from the first time I arrived at Manchester was great," he explained.

"He was waiting for me in the stadium, took me to the hotel and showed me the facilities at the training ground. I really appreciated that.

"In private he is a very nice person and I have a lot of good memories of Sir Alex. He spent a lot of time with me and he taught me a lot of things."

Zoran Tosic leaves Manchester United for CSKA Moscow

Tosic netted five times at Cologne
Serbian international Zoran Tosic has left Manchester United for CSKA Moscow for an undisclosed fee.
The winger arrived at United for ?7m from Partizan Belgrade in January 2009.
However, he made just five first-team appearances before being loaned to Bundesliga side FC Cologne for the second half of the 2009-10 season.
The German outfit said they could not afford to keep the 23-year-old, who was an unused substitute in Serbia's 1-0 World Cup defeat to Ghana on Sunday.
Despite never scoring for United, Tosic managed five goals for Cologne in their successful battle to avoid relegation.

Tosic's move to Old Trafford 18 months ago was initially intended to be part of a ?16.5 double-swoop involving then-17-year-old Partizan midfielder Adem Ljajic.
United, though, eventually decided against signing Ljajic - now at Fiorentina - citing difficulties in acquiring a work permit for the youngster as the main reason for pulling the plug on the deal.

Riquelme confirms English link

Midfielder set to return to Europe this summer

Argentinian midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme has confirmed that an English club is pursuing his signature.

The 31-year-old former Boca Juniors star is a target of Premier League outfit West Ham, as reported by skysports.com on Tuesday.

Riquelme, who has retired from international duty after a fall-out with coach Diego Maradona, has had two spells with Boca and has previously played for Barcelona and Villarreal.
Both Everton and Tottenham have enquired about the technically-gifted midfielder in recent years, and Brazilian club Flamengo have reportedly already put an offer on the table.

Riquelme feels he can still play at the highest level, and confirmed that he has had offers from Argentina, as well as an interested English party.

"I am a player who can play in any side," he said in the Daily Express.

"I want to be happy and know where I am going to play. I feel I can play at the highest level for many more years.

"I have had several offers from clubs in Argentina and there is an English club asking about me and my agent is dealing with it."

West Ham avoided relegation from the Premier League last season and Avram Granthas since taken control of the club following the departure of Gianfranco Zola.
The East London side have already added German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger to their squad as they look to improve next term.

Gunners land Dutch gem

Arsenal beat Chelsea to Feyenoord youngster

Arsenal have completed the signing of Dutch starlet Kyle Ebecilio, according to Feyenoord.

The 16-year-old is a graduate of the Rotterdam club's youth system but he has opted to move to England.

Chelsea were also keen on the Dutch youth international, but the midfielder has elected to join Arsenal instead.

Feyenoord technical director Leo Beenhakker said: "We did what we could do by offering the kid a contract on time. But he wanted to wait, again this is his right. That he now goes to Arsenal, means that we only get a training allowance.

"This is the story of (Chelsea defender Jeffrey) Bruma, he was also a great talent that unfortunately never played for us. I treasure Ebecilio highly."

Laporta - Gunners will give in

Barca president confident they will land transfer target Fabregas

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is confident Arsenal will eventually accept defeat in their battle to hold onto Cesc Fabregas.

The Gunners have already turned down a Barca bid for their star midfielder - thought to be in the region of ?29 million.

The Spanish champions are preparing to go back to Arsenal with an improved offer for the 23-year-old, who started out in the Barca youth ranks before being lured to North London in 2003.

And although the Premier League side are determined not to lose their captain, Laportabelieves they can only resist Barca's overtures for so long.

"Arsenal will end up giving in, but I don't know when that will be," he told reporters on a visit to Sant Guim de Freixenet.

"We will have to wait and let the professionals who are taking care of it do their work."

Pledge

Laporta is set to leave his post at the end of the month to be replaced by Sandro Rosell and, although the outgoing president is unsure whether a deal can be struck before he steps down, his successor pledged to land Fabregas during his successful election campaign.

"If it's not us, it will be up to the new board if they consider it appropriate to carry on along this road," Laporta told the club's official website.

Barca have already signed Spain striker David Villa from Valencia this summer and have been linked with a move for his international team-mate Fernando Torres.
That means Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thierry Henry could both be heading out of the Camp Nou this summer.

"The market is very changeable and is moving at the moment, so we have to be careful in that sense," Laporta added.

Skysports.com understands Birmingham are ready to rekindle their interest in Liverpool's Ryan Babel.

Birmingham tried to sign Babel during the January transfer window, but failed to agree a deal with Liverpool.
Blues boss Alex McLeish is thought to be a big admirer of the Dutchman and is ready to revive his attempts to lure him to St Andrews.
McLeish has been frustrated in his attempts to sign Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia and could now turn his attentions to Babel to fill the left-sided midfield role.

Babel's future at Liverpool looks uncertain with the 23-year-old failing to live up to expectations at Anfield.

Liverpool could be tempted to cash in on Babel to help raise funds for potential new signings for whoever becomes the club's new manager.
