As reported in the press this morning, the ref is alleged to have called one of the Chelsea players a monkey. As the ref has a microphone attached he is very confident he will be cleared as a few people will have heard his words.

        CHELSEA STATEMENT

Posted on: Wed 31 Oct 2012
Chelsea Football Club today lodged a formal complaint with The Football Association regarding inappropriate language directed at John Mikel Obi by referee Mark Clattenburg. This is a result of a thorough investigation carried out by the club, and led by outside legal counsel, of all information available to us including interviews with a number of players and staff.

Following Sunday's Premier League game against Manchester United, club board members were quickly made aware, upon entering the home dressing room after the final whistle, that there were allegations of inappropriate language directed at Chelsea FC players by Mr Clattenburg during the game.

Board members began establishing the details of the allegations, speaking to all relevant players and staff. After those initial interviews it was clear that the matter had to be reported. The correct protocol for doing so was to report the incidents to the match delegate, and the club took immediate steps to inform him as soon as he was available. It was not a decision the club took lightly.

Since reporting the matter to the delegate, the club and outside legal counsel have conducted further investigations. Having completed that process we have now followed the correct protocol and lodged a formal complaint with The FA regarding John Mikel Obi. There was not sufficient evidence to support a second claim to The FA with regard to the alleged verbal abuse of another first team player.

We will cooperate fully with The FA and the Police as they each investigate the matter. As events on Sunday are now subject to those investigations we are unable to comment further until those processes are complete.

sometimes even the pundits who have all watched the footage a thousand times disagree with each other

That's exactly it people always saying they are human yes but they have a job to do and they are making big mistakes, if we do that in our jobs we get written warnings and eventually the sack they should get the same. Making excuses for them will not change anything but make them even more lapse at the very least they should made to do press conferences or interviews after the games.

I remember Paul Durkin who made a mistake in a game but he came out on camera and put his hand up to it and he was praised for it.

95% of referees do a good job in Utd's favour

its hardly the same job is it?

they have 1 split second view of an incident and have to act on what they seen or thought they had seen

comparing it to a regular employee mistake is just plain daft

yes man utd do get a fair few decisions they also been wronged plenty too as have all teams

you must forget all the decisions gerrard and co have got diving about all over and the goal that never was v chelsea in the CL

It is strange that if Mark Clattenberg used racist language that at the time it wasn't even mentioned by Mikel. I don't think Chelsea would be lodging complaints had the result been different. Aslo, what was John terry doing in the ref's dressing room after the game. The only remarks that were overheard were from someone threatening to break Clattenberg's legs.
Also did anyone see Chicarito inciting the crowd?
Chelsea are a sick joke and deserve to be docked points

I think you just need to look at the standard of refereeing in other countries to realise that you are spot on here red.

                        Some referee facts:

                        1. Mike Dean, referee, when Blackburn beat Manchester United 3-2 and hasn't refereed a Manchester United game since.

                        2. Mike Dean - referee, in 2010, after Manchester United's defeat to Chelsea, was demoted to the Championship.

                        3. Alan Wiley, called "fat and unfit" by Alex after Manchester United's draw with Sunderland," agreed to retire" that season, he was also the ref on OT when the mancs lost 1-4 to Liverpool.

                        4. Mark Clattenburg refereed Manchester United's 6-1 defeat to Manchester City, hasn't refereed a single Manchester United game after that Manchester derby.

                        5. Martin Atkinson -Involved in Manchester United's defeat to Chelsea, criticized by Alex, ha...sn't refereed Manchester United game since.

                        6. Ex referee Jeff Winter openly stating that he hadn't been given a Manchester United game for 2 years after sending Roy Keane off.

                        7. Howard Webb has been Manchester United's most used referee since the defeat to Manchester City

                        8. More than 18% of the penalties Webb has awarded in his 8 year career have been to Manchester United.

                        9. Manchester United's CEO is on the board of The FA.

                        10. Alex Ferguson not happy with Chris Foy after their 3-2 defeat to spurs, Foy demoted to a League Two game between Accrington Stanley and Rochdale this weekend. something he hasn't done since 2008.

In the same week, howard webb sent off a wigan player by mistake......a decision so bad the red card had to be rescinded after the match by the F.A.......but what game did howard webb get the following weekend?

                        Newcastle vs Manchester United

Now think about the above facts and ask yourself.........did clattenberg really want to give big decisions against united and risk being out of the spotlight for another 2 years?!

                        Hmmmmmmm

                          Also just to add......

Who picks which ref gets which game?

I still think the Chelsea players are lying about this whole racism thing though. They were just mad with the ref because he was giving united alot of decisions......so this is there way at getting back at him.

They feel he was being currupt

Italy, spain, germany have all had curruption in their games......

The premier league is worth billions and is a money making machine....what makes people think our game isnt currupt?!

i would question these facts seen as he was referee at the weekend

the statistics mean nothing when compared against nothing

prior to sundays game chelsea had not lost a match clattenberg had refereed

could be regarded as something more but chelsea win most games they play anyway so the stat is daft

howard webb as englands top referee will do a lot of man utd games because they tend to be high profile and require a strong ref

he also will have reffed other top sides more than other refs

man utd in most games in general usually do more attacking than the teams they play and have more of the ball

this means they will get more penalties and more free kicks than most other teams

anyone can produce stats but when they are measured against nothing and took out of context they are meaningless

taken from wiki buts its common knowledge just to prove these stats are garbage

In 2007, three years after his Premier League debut, Clattenburg came in for arguably his fiercest criticism of his refereeing following a Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool.[24] The first notable incident involving Clattenburg was the award of a penalty kick for an apparent professional foul by Everton's Tony Hibbert on Liverpool's Steven Gerrard. Clattenburg initially took out his yellow card, seemingly to book Hibbert, but after an interaction, albeit brief, with Gerrard, Clattenburg changed his mind and showed Hibbert a red card.[25] He later elected not to dismiss Dirk Kuyt for a waist-high lunge at Phil Neville.[26] One final controversy arose when he declined Everton appeals for a penalty in the third minute of injury time, with the score at 1?2, when Jamie Carragher appeared to foul Joleon Lescott in the Liverpool penalty area.[27][28] Clattenburg was not appointed to referee another Everton match until 2012

5 ****in years he never reffed everton after this

so on comparing this evidence to the latter moyes and everton have much bigger sway than fergie and man utd

clattenberg only missed utd for a year not five
