Just waiting for my account upgrade before I can downlaod the syscheck utility. My Wii is mega old and has been hardmodded, softmodded and now I'm trying to install Darkcorp v.1.1 to play my backups straight from the drive. Due to the age, I'm hoping it's just the missing IOSs I need. I won't pretend to understand all this. I'm usually pretty good techy-wise, but this is beyond me. I do however try to follow instructions to the absolute letter, but this time I've run into a few problems, hence why I'm here.

Same issue with Neogamma r8 - Disc Read Error
Installed Darkcorps, but so far won't recognise DVD +/- R/RW

Hoping this thread helps. Thanks guys for all your hard work and sharing the knowledge.

Darkcorp is hugely dangerous especially as you don't know what it does or what you have now it's installed. I'm assuming you have bootmii as boot 2 which is a bit of safety net but only if you have a working nand backup. Before you try anything else make sure you have a nand backup and the best discs to use are verbatim minus (-) R. By installing darkcorp you have just overwritten a load of system ios so be very careful what you now install as your wii may not react to an app the way an app creator intended it to as you have made some very major changes to the core system. Post your syscheck when you can so we can see where you are at and what you have left.

        Welcome to DK.

I've never needed to use Darkcorp but I heard HH talk about and its not worth it. Trying to play burnt discs isn't really worth it as you have to buy quality DVD's then you'll need somewhere to store them all.

As suggested post a sysCheck report as instructed. Then you should be able to use the USB Loaders.

Darkcorp is an excellent program keith but when we get a syscheck you will be able to see the ios numbers that it messes with and they are all 2 digit so any theme installations or official updates almost always results in a full brick that can only be saved by bootmii as boot2 and a working nand backup. As you will probably have guessed it was developed a long time ago when all wii's could install bootmii as boot2 so it wasn't so much of a problem but a brick caused by darkcorp almost always destroys priiloader so bootmii as an ios is pretty much useless for recovery from this type of brick.

Well I got stuck again. I read all the horror stories about Darkcorp but I'm usually really jammy with these kind of things so decided to take the plunge. Messed around with it for way too long & got nowhere really. It's uninstalled now & all IOSs reverted & that's how it will stay as far as darkcorp is concerned. I have been trying other options though, such as Neogamma R9, still to no avail (different error code to what I get with r8, but still a disc read error nonetheless), even trying to install several different cIOSs. My SysCheck.csv said nothing about being able to read DVDs, but I've refused to believe that so far as my Wii is definitely a 1st generation. Does sysCheck tell you if it's not able to read DVDs, or just that it is able, if it can?

Anyway, my next step is to follow another guide on wiihacks to start the softmod all over again (apparently there is no benefit in virginising the Wii as the IOSs are going to be overwritten anyway) but this guide is supposed to bring you to a point where you have a choice of usbloaders & neogamma as well. I'm not sure about the DVD media I'm using either. Would it be fair to say that if they worked when it was harmodded, they should be readable through neogamma?

Just to add. I have the ability to load from USB, which is great for me, but not so great for my 7 year old. Plus the fact that I don't have a spare external drive available at the moment, just an old internal IDE that I had knocking around with a USB adapter & external power supply, which is temperamental to say the least. The hardmod was all good until yesterday, when my 2 year old, obviously unimpressed with the Wii being only able to read 1 disc at a time, decided to try 3 at once. Needless to say I found myself donning my triwing screwdriver & refreshing my dismantling knowledge. In the process, I was a bit heavy-handed with my previous solder job, & Wii modding has come so far since I did that, I'll be damned if I'm finding my soldering iron out again after all these years!

I'm at work now, so I'll post my syscheck.csv later. I have already passed it through modmii to fix the stubbed IOSs & install any missing ones. I'm still at square one though. Any thoughts in the meantime?

I did go through modmii yesterday but at the time I was just concentrating on updating the IOSs to clear out darkcorp and fix the stubbed ones. Are you saying I should go through the whole lot as if modding for the first time?

Will this enable me to run discs through the Neogamma channel? I haven't found anything in modmii that categorically confirms this.

                Thanks again.

if your syscheck states hbc is on ios 58 then you should have done enough by updating ios but the problem is only updating ios very rarely removes darkcorp, you need to install a new system menu, which us why I recommended the full softmod and as you would anyway choose 4.3 as the version number you would like to be on after completion. You only need to follow the softmod guide from after hbc installation if you already have hbc installed into ios 58, If it's installed into 61 as older versions were you will need to reinstall it as it needs to be on 58 for all new loaders to work properly, as for your wii being able to read dvd's this is a dead cert as you already had a chip installed so drive date is irrelevant even though syscheck does give you the drive date in the file

Thanks for the info. I feel like I'm armed up enough to have another crack at it now. Nothing worse than trial and error (with caution) when you come out with nothing but error after error. I seem to remember hbc being on IOS58. 61 doesnt ring a bell but it gives me something to go on. I didn't softmod until about 18 months ago if that. Either way I'll check it out and go through modmii from scratch if I need to and I'll post my syscheck.csv later to see if any of you clever guys can see something I'm missing!

Come to think of it, I had the inverted hbc problem yesterday after darkcorp, so reinstalled hbc to fix it through modmii. Would that install to 58 by default? I updated modmii to the latest version beforehand.

Well mine is Homebrew Channel 1.1.0 running on IOS58

The original Homebrew was 1.0.8 which I updated through Homebrew a couple of months ago, just running Homebrew and a message pops up to update. I thiink IOS61 was the earlier Wii's.

I know your Wii was done 18 months ago but was a NAND backup done at that time and do you know where keys.bin, nand.bin and the bootmi folder are?

First of please post a syscheck report as I've asked before.

I will do when I get home...still at work at the moment. I did update the HBC to 1.1.0 yesterday so maybe it installed to IOS58. I'll have to check later.

I'm certain I would've done a NAND backup back then as I followed the modmii guide meticulously, so I assume it will still be on the SD.

Well you really need PriiLoader 0.7 installed if you don't have it already because if it ever did brick your Wii then you probably won't access Homebrew for find BootMii to restore your NAND but you should be able to in PriiLoader.

PriiLoader will block any online or disc updates plus other tweaks.

Yeah I have Priloader installed. That's long-press reset isn't it? Looks like I'm not going to get time to get on the Wii tonight anyway but I'll post my syscheck report as soon as I can for your perusal! Really though, thanks for all your willingness to help out.

because he has an old wii bootmii can be installed to boot 2 giving an almost brick proof wii, priiloader isn't required for recovery with boot 2 bootmii but is required for system hacks. To check if bootmii is installed as boot 2 power on the wii without a disc in the slot. If it flashes twice you have bootmii as boot 2 and can't get any safer once you have a working nand backup

Just to confirm, I have Bootmii installed to boot2 and I have a NAND backup, so hopefully I won't find myself in a situation where I can't do anything. Anyway, here is my syscheck log:

As you can see, my HBC is installed to IOS61, so changing that is my next move
