Are you sure its FAT32 because Windows won't format large drive FAT32 you have to use EASEUS Partition Master its free.

Put the drive back in Windows and check its properties it will tell how its formatted.

The latest USB Loader GX it says
Support for multiple file systems: Load your Games from WBFS, FAT32 or NTFS!
There is an option in Settings the gear icon the Hard Drive Settings that shows the drive format type it uses Game\Install Partition. If you click on this you can't change it to FAT32 or NTFS. There is a Sync-FAT32 FS info at the bottom but I haven't clicked it because I'm using a WBFS formatted drive.

I am back and of course I have more problems.....
Last night I managed to reformat my Hdd with EASEUS (recommended from keithuk), and it has been formatted to FAT32. I connected back to the wii without any games on it and load wiisport.....good it asked me to load game etc etc and I have done the same for a few of my games all working fine.....so went to bed. After work this morning I went back on the wii and when I try to switch it on nothing come up on the screen black screen, with or without hdd connected......what the hell have I done?....

you installed priiloder so restart the wii while holding in the reset button to access priiloader then check in the setting that that priiloader boots to system menu then restart the wii

When you installed bootmii did you install it as boot 2 and ios or were you only given the ios option, if you installed it as boot 2 put the bootmii file and nand backup file onto the as sd card and put it back into the wii, then power up the wii if bootmii is boot 2 this will launch bootmii then you just go along to the option where you are putting sd card back onto the chip and restore your nand then start again from when you did the nand backup. Take it slowly and see if you can replicate the problem. If you can we can work round it if not you have done it correct second time around. If you don't have bootmii as boot 2 we will have to figure out something else.

I know you have checked the cables on the wii but have you checked the connection in the tv. I would assume you have but it's an easy one to forget.
