do u need any info off ur xp machine?? if so save it
go here download xp sp3 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=25129
then burn it to a cd and install on xp machine
when it asks u to format dont select (Quick) and format with ntfs
this mite take u a few hours to format but will be cleaned like new

so i go to the download how do i get it saved and burnt onto a disc without affecting this laptop,guess what i've never burnt a disc before. and wont it ask me for a product key or whatever you call it?

it will ask for a product key do u have ur old 1 still? if no not to worry can fix that for you

so download the xp sp3 to ur laptop and to somewhere were u can find it again

once installed run the program follow the instruction + pics

close this first page down

open recorder select burn image and browse to the location of xp sp3

when u have put the ticks in/selected speeds etc... click burn and the disc tray should open prompting u to put a blank CD-R (disc) into it
then it will write xp sp3 it to the CD-R and that will be ur installation disc made

i'll give it a go after the football has finished this evening i presume i can use a recordable dvd disc to burn it onto?

after downloading the xp sp3 a screen automatically popped up toshiba disc creator its a split screen on the right in red writing it says please select an image file from the left window and other various options its too overwhelming for me,i also downloaded the nero burnlite but that is asking me to install other files/software 1) microsoft vc redist 2005 kb973544 (x86) and 2) reboot validator both say pending so i've closed down the screen,to be honest i dont know what i'm doing and scared of causing more problems,i think i saw xp sp3 original discs on ebay for about ?15 will they be compatible and would i just have to load the disc and let it run as i'm out of my depth trying to do these other things.

the disc has arrived do i just load it or do i need to click on something as the computer switches on?

do this quickly switch it on and open the disc tray and pop the disc in then hopefully u will see a message say "press any key to run disc"
if u do not see that then we will have to go into ur bios and set the dvd-rom to 1st boot priority

i jumped the gun had the computer switched on already loaded the disc it extracted files then came back with an error message,i got a photo of the message i then saw the reply and i've tried switching on and loading the disc again but not getting option to press any key to run disc

i've just downloaded the photo of the error message i got, SERVICE PACK 3 SETUP ERROR set up has detected that the version of sevice pack installed on your system is lower than what is necessary to apply this hotfix. at minimum,you must have service pack1 installed.

when i switch computer on 1st screen runs a memory test then the next screen doesnt last long but says something like press shift f10 to configure then it just goes to desktop
