that whole startup before u see the windows logo screen is the boot sequence

on that sequence there will be a line of Press any key to boot from cd-r

so u hit anykey and the installation process will start

i've tried at least 6 times booting up,the first time the screens had loaded too fast before the disc tray opened as it doesnt run the memory test as before,i kept the disc in and re-started pressed s but it just goes to next screen i've also tried pressing other letters but it just continues to next screen,i only get the screen that says press f10 to configure not boot from cd, theres a screen that gives all the computer spec and i managed to pause it on that screen as i noticed it was saying something about boot cd not found, the screen at the top has MAIN PROCESSOR(R) PENTIUM(R) 4CPU
it then has a large box with all the info like floppy disc etc etc first thing on top left of screen says 1ST MATH PROCESSOR: BUILT IN
at the bottom of the screen under the big box it says
        DDRAM AT DIMM#1,2,
SEARCHING FOR BOOT RECORD FROM CDROM.....NOT FOUND
SEARCHING FOR BOOT RECORD FROM IDE-0
then it just continues to load to the screensaver/desktop.
the last try i held down a letter and pause break to try and hold the first loading page but it went to the next screen making a constant beep which only stopped when i pressed the f10 to configure, should i try that old version of xp left by the repairer who conned me and see if that gives me the option to boot from cd or if i do will i have to go through the whole process of running it?

got the manual it says hermes 650 series inner page says msi ms-6232(v1.x) barebone, got the advanced bios page open for 1st/2nd/3rd boot device
it says the items allow you to set the sequence of boot devices where AMIBIOS attempts to load the operating system.the settings are
IDE-0 the system will boot from the first HDD
IDE-1 the system as above 2nd HDD
          IDE-2 as above 3rd HDD

do we not have IDE-0 set as 3 rd option with the sony at 1 and 2 or am i just confused. along with the manual i have 4 discs from the first time it was set up but i think they were for the scanner and the old screen and keyboard 1) blueline 1.2 cherry (has pic of keyboard on it)
          2) drivers and utilities has small writing on the edge these functions are optional,on the disc in a box it has adobe, adobe reader, fuzzy logic, live update,pc alert,pc-cillin,useful websites.
3)ulead photo express (will this be for my scanner)
          4) fax talk (looks like for modem)

yes try that disc see if the option of boot the disc comes up

basically what should happen is the computers motherboard loads first then then cpu n ram and then will check for devices and should check the cd rom first and load the disc
if its failing to see the disc it will then continue to the next device which is the hard drive

i've just tried switching the disc after hitting any key from boot from cd option whilst it was loading the windows set up screen but it says please insert the disk labelled windows xp professional cd-rom into drive a then press enter,if i wait until later in the set up procedure wont the same happen?

is that what you think is stopping it from loading properly,i might as well just wait for the new disk before i try anything?

fresh install, or use ccleaner to clean your registry, it should make a significant change, or you could install a TuneUp free trial version tu fix some other troubles.
