Menu > Scroll to the bottom of the list & look for an Icon that looks like the signal/mast display.
You just need to turn on the mobile network.

try updating it via blackberry manager but entering an unlock code wont give this problem as long as like Canker_Canison said turn on the connections in settings

Is this with the origial network SIM or your chosen network SIM that you needed the phone unlocking for?

Check to make sure the SIM works in another phone

The connections manager screen should look like this...



Make sure there's a cross or a tick in the Mobile Network box
