Definitely you are in the right direction, yes. There is nothing else for them than offering free a SKY+ box to the old SD subscribers. But as some members stated, you can refuse the "gift" and keep your Thomson chip box or older box, keeping this way your card out of the "transformation" with adding of hardware pairing.

Remember... there is mostly 10 Million boxes in use, many of them also old and SD, with an average cost of 50-90? (shipping + box price), the cost seems to be unaffordable for now or next years ! HD customers are the ones selected for the change from Thomson box to other not hacked chipsets. Easier change and less expensive, as these are customers paying high subscriptions. And a limited number of owners of such boxes.

The big problem is the SD subscribers, naturally to reduce the costs they will need to push them to HD with special offers, no extra sub cost to HD, replacement of box with HD for cheap (25?) or other marketing ways... as always, the last ones will get all for free (box, higher subscription for same price, etc). To get the most of this, be the last one !

I don't see any way to activate the Hardware Pairing on the SD boxes, as these chips doesn't have such technology ;o), so be happy, keep watching SD would be THE solution.

Anyway, as I stated they have a problem with Thomson boxes, due to ST chipset hacked... if you dont know this then you are on the moon and not on earth dear RuberDuck (Ruber=Rupert ? You admire him so much ?).

Considering the "Conspiracy theory", that is by the facts very real reality, you have plenty to read at Murdoch's Pirates and watch with Panorama program, as well as article from the AFR Pay TV piracy, all this is far from beeing a theory, results ? Premier in Germany bankrupt, Telepiu in Italy bankrupt, On Digital in UK bankrupt, competitors of FoxTel mostly bankrupt sold for peanuts or closed... I see these as very real with thousands of people fired. Without talking about the 14400 emails to read carefully, for sure Ray loved reading them as well as is very good friend OK...

Id imagine that those of us with Thomson boxes will be told by them that if you dont take a new box you will end up without the HD and Premium channels as the Thomson box will be no longer able to receive these.

hi all just got hd box activated today for a friend after it being in the cupboard for over 1 year just checked entitlments in my omnikey oscam and every one of them are dated 17.06.2013

so far its the people with amstrad 890/895 HD boxs who have put their card back in that box to update entitlements who have been effected as a software update has been performed at the same time which has performed a secondary pairing to the chipset id thus making all hd and premium sd content unwatchable via O****/C****. as stated its going to take all subscribers with older thompson HD boxs and all sd boxs to be replaced free or heavily subsidised and as for people refusing to accept a free stb upgrade there will be some clause in the T+C,s stating thats a breech of contract under security of the system or similar. no doubt there are N**,Kudelski ect spies on the forums but unless someone has concrete proof of such accusations should be kept off the forum. regards mdt

Is this going the same way as the dbox's a few years ago? Is it advisable to to get a box setup or wait for a while to see what happens?
