Most of the Chinese suppliers put the value of the box a lot lower than it is also they usually mark it as a gift I have bought a lot of stuff from China and have never had to pay any extra to customs in the uk

I have had to wait 1-2 weeks for my goods to be delivered, had to contact gtsclearance sending them payment receipt. So customs very expensive at the minute. They not going by the value written on order, instead the actual receipt needs to be shown

Think it's just fedex that are doing that just now, but can see the rest jumping on board shortly.

Fedex charged me ?23 for a shipment of 10 boxes where as DHL only charged me ?11 something for same size of order

Lucky you, Fedex had charged me over ?100 on a carton of 10 - they took the declared value and added a "Standard charge" for delivery from China, which was different (higher) than the actual charge, then charged VAT on the lot, including the non-EU part of the shipping which is not subject to VAT. DHL are usually cheaper but have stuck one through on the same basis and held the delivery to ransom until paid.
