IDE-HDD now running sweet-as! Test feedback from our resident Chief Tester, LraiZer:

it detects, mounts, records and plays my pre-formated xfs ide-hdd fine now, thanks!

changed settings to Filesystem EXT2 and used HDD Initalise to reformat to ext2.
this detects, mounts, records and plays the re-formatted ext2 ide-hdd fine.

changed settings back to Filesystem XFS and used HDD Initalise to reformat back to xfs.
this detects, mounts, records and plays the reformatted xfs ide-hdd fine.

Infobar EPG bug sorted! Virtual Zap is now set to ON by default, so when you left or right arrow key to see what's on adjacent channels, you can now arrow down again, to see what's on later, instead of getting the dreaded EPG not loaded... error. Was a bug in the cvs; now fixed.

Features Menu (Blue button)- Softcam menu now has dbox button assigned to it, instead of Red button. Se we don't now get two menu items each with a Red button, if you have Recording activated (which it is now). Turn Recording OFF in Settings, if you don't want this to appear in Features menu.

Thanks Renwich - done some initial IDE testing and it has recognised my XFS formatted drive and records/plays no problem. I aim to do some more tests later and will get back to you.

However, I am having some difficulties with the 7day EPG only seeing Now-n-Next despite editing EPGfilter file..

I added a 'ZAP TO' timer to my schedule so that the box would change to the EPG_PVR channel overnight and download the full 7day program guide..but despite waiting about 10mins I was still only seeing the 'Now-n-Next' guide.

I'll need to do some further checks later to see what might be wrong..

By the way in this process I think I found a bug... When I tried to ADD a new channel (tried to add the EPG_PVR) to a bouquet (so I could select it in the 'ZAP-TO' timer) - in the window showing the list of all available channels I was unable to use the IR scroll-down function, so was unable to edit my bouquet. I needed to edit it using a txt editor in the end.

Otherwise congratulations on all the hardwork that must have gone into the image, it is truly spectacular.

Check you actually have PVR_EPG showing in one of your bouquets, otherwise the system might not be finding it, due to a setting in zapit.conf which stops an 'Unsorted' (or 'Other') bouquet from appearing.

Also, after making a new epgfilter.xml file, you must reboot the box in order for the new filter data to be read into memory.

the EPG filter needs setting up seems a crucial bit of info was not posted from the original release thread

in the mean time if you cant work out the epgfilter in /var/tuxbox/zapit

upload this sectionsd to /bin overwriting the one in there ,ensure its chmodd 755

Does this file 'enable' 7 day EPG or 'disable' it - it's not clear from the context.

The channel was in 'Unsorted', and I had to manually amend my bouquet so that I could select the channel (see my comment above about problems editing the bouquet)..I did re-boot the box too.

I also forgot to mention that I'd chosen the EPG path as /hdd. I assumed it would be better to do this as I have an internal HDD and avoid memory problems..does the EPGfilter.xml file need to be moved to the HDD too?

If you're using the sectionsd that came with the image, then the Channels you do want 7 Day EPG for go into the filter file. (There's help text in the filter that tell you how to set it all up).

If you're using the 'older' sectionsd, then you also need to use your old filter file with it. Which contains all the channels you don't want 7 day for. If you don't have this backed up, then edit the first code line of the file to read this:

<epgfilter is_whitelist="0" except_current_next="1">

This limits the contents to Now 'n Next EPG only, when running the old sectionsd. Why anyone wants to do this, though, has me baffled. The new method that FreddyFrog has cooked up, is faster, smaller and easier!!

Whichever method you're using, clear that EPG Path line to your hdd, as you're going into un-tested territory with this!

I discovered my problem was because the Read EPG was mysteriously set to OFF. But this must have happened sometime after the initial EPG download as I was seeing some channel info..but not much.

BTW how can you clear the EPG path? It only seems to allow you to enter a valid path?

Some discoveries I've made since installing this image lead me to suspect that there are a number of 'bugs' still to be ironed out especially around the Bouquet/Channel list/EPG area.

For some background if anyone's interested in looking into this I've noted;

I cannot edit my bouquet on the dbox directly as the scroll feature doesn't work when editing the channel list in the editor, the only solution is to edit my bouquet offline

The 'Read EPG' setting would switch to OFF when recording (which I presume is a feature rather than a bug)

When the 'Read EPG' was set to OFF I could not be reset to ON without a reboot (when I changed it and came back to the menu it was OFF again)...I wonder whether this is related to other peoples problems updating the EPG?

Even when the EPG was 'working' I didn't seem to be able to download all channels 7 day program guide..there were gaps in the schedule

In Radio Mode, I only saw one radio channel listed. Even after I did a rescan, although the scan said it found new channels, these did not appear in the new list. Doing a full re-scan and setting 'Bouquet: Erase All' resulted in the list of radio channels appearing in the EPG, but the dbox was unable to tune into them

The service scan messes up the bouquet, which I appreciate is a known issue

On recording to HDD the TV image became choppy, although sorted itself out after a short while (I'd never noticed this with Command v8.25)

Mostly I'd say the recording to HDD seems to work okay (and I like the record from current program guide feature) but one recording was corrupted and this had never happened with Commando v8.25.

Possible enhancements to the Movie Player

While watching a recorded TS stream pressing '?' on the IR control displays a status bar for a split second and then it disappears..it would be nice to display this status bar for a little while longer, and perhaps have some 'sub-functions' that can be set by navigating with the IR joypad.

For people unfamiliar with the controls during playback in the past pressing '?' would display a help screen, this appears to have disappeared and would probably be a good idea to bring back for newbies

When entering the TS moviebrowser for the first time it scans for all available recordings, but you sometimes need to do this manually (pressing the blue button) when you go back. I think an automatic refresh would be better.

In the TS moviebrowser, scrolling up/down the recordings the trailing '0' digit disappears when scrolling down, only to re-appear when the screen is refreshed. I'm not really sure what this is supposed to show anyway, but if it serves no function then perhaps it would be good to just get rid of it

When pressing the '+'/'-' keys another view of the available TS files appears, but again I'm not sure what this is supposed to acomplish as this is blank.

For those of us with HDD built it it would be nice (I know people have requested this before) to have a timeslip function

It would also be nice to have a bar indicator in the TS moviebrowser indicating available disk space. I know this feature exists in the IDE section, but in this version of commando it doesn't actually work.

Commando 10 is JFFS2 format, which means you can use Image Converter to convert it from x2 to x1 - but make sure you set it to Flash NO Bootloader for the conversion. The converted image should be exactly 8,257,356 bytes in size.
