i will agree with you garry....as it does have some unique features also that others receivers don't have.

but for my needs....it just wasn't worth it.....and it would've been my first receiver also......the guy sold me a spiderbox in the end.......the banker !!!!

The DM800SE clone i think is brillant build is great, really a clone ? i have dreamboxuk image on it based on openpli, runs perfect, been running for months without any restarts, its just flawless

the support for patched images on dreambox is very good id say

since bought a VU Duo original, wanted a dual tuner, otherwise hard drive was waste of time, when others decided wanted to change channels,

we all know dream really over charge for there boxes, vu seem to try to give best price , so if clones get really low then would be hard to pass by

Judging by the feedback I've seen they are running exactly like the original with latest kernal.

As long as the user knows they are buying a clone they would not use the images for the original. Its the same scenerio as the DM800 clones, you wouldn't use original images on a clone.

The fact of the matter is that there are a lot of people out there selling these off as the real thing. i have seen dozens of ebay sales where sellers are listing clones as original boxes, people who buy them unknowingly will end up with a dead box as soon as they load any image with the new kernel and drivers.

Take it the Spiderbox aint up to much mate? Never tried one and never been a receiver I have considered.

Yeah Dreams prices are sky high and thats most likely what has helped the Dream clone market.

In all honesty even if the Vu Duo clone was to drop to ?100 i still dont think I would budge I am enjoying the benefits that come with a original linux/ Enigma receiver.

Yeah noticed several on the Bay clearly clones yet either same price as the original or just under.

yes they are expensive but dream spend the money getting the teams to tailor the engima2 to to what it is today the vu have proberly just paid for a licence to use the dream engima2 setup and the chinese have just copyed everything, thats one reason why dreams are more expensive proberly much better build quality to, than the clones it is only lately that the clone quality is exeptable

the spiderbox is what it is....a plug n play box that offered a 'service' for th people who don't want to tinker.

i'm pretty suprised they have brought out new models

if the clone vu was ?120......i would have to have a look ....just for the sake of it if nothing else .................i think that at ?150ish...it would be worth having a look at

I dont think Dream can play that card anymore Enigma is very well established now. All companies at the end of the day have to spend money to make there product and yes that should reflect in the product price but in my opinion Dream are just ripping the piss.

Vu+ do not pay a licence fee as far as I am aware as just last year there was the legal battle between Dream and Vu+. Dream took them to court as Vu+'s receivers mention Enigma2 which is trademarked by Dream. I think anyone can use the 'Enigma' OS but the actual name Enigma and Enigma2 is property of Dream multimedia.

I may not be completely right there but if I am not I would imagine I am not far off.

@ Alom (my quoting does not appear to be working)

I imagine that it will drop to ?150 from China when the SE clone first came on the scene it was higher but quickly dropped to the price we see it at now.

not really mate.....i got the se for $250......i don't think it's dropped much....has it.?

not looked recently.....................can they really afford to drop it to that price and continue to sell it at that price? i doubt it mate.

                        lucky my quote works

$250 how much in pounds mate was going to convert it but the exchange rate went up a bit back and dont know what it is at the now.

If the Duo clone drops to ?150 from China you may find that they will need to drop the SE clone to ?100 to keep sales for that up but in all honesty right now I cant see the Vu clone doing to well, I may be wrong but the Dream clones do so well due to the price difference compared to the original and they have excellent support (for instance look on here most of the threads in the dreambox section appear to be more clone related than original receiver)

$250 that was ?157 or so.

is there a section for dream originals ?

true it looks as if there isnt but the Dreambox section would be it, not that you could tell from looking at the threads .
