i would not be too sure about that. try loading the newest Vu drivers to a clone and come back and let us know ok.Comment

I hope we don't have another Gemini scenario, remember what that did for their image on both the genuine and clone side.
If you are talking about killing a bootloader that isn't exactly a bomb as such and is quite easy to regain from. But if that is true you shouldn't be telling people to intentionally try it and brick their box, clone or not.
Good for those peeps that like to fix a broken clone or two. Is the Vu a DM clone?I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas AdamsComment

as i said earlier ViX will never ever include any form of bomb to harm any receiver clone or not. what vu do them selves is upto them after-all there protecting their hardware from dodgy Chinese cloners.
i'm just re-posting what has been said on the ferrari site that new drivers for the vu contain code to disable clones. weather that is true or not i have no idea as my boxes are legitimate.Comment

I still wouldn't like to test the point or assume that someone else should.
Ferrari are another kettle of fish, I seldom quote what is not proven. They would just require a patch either way?I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas AdamsComment

this is a direct quote from the ferrari forum
Yes, unfortunately we have received message that new VU drivers are containing a time bomb - same as old timer DM500 (SD) . VU box has no First Stage and no Second Stage loader - it boots just from the same chip that the image is stored in. Than if there is a detection of any difference between genuine and OEM box than it is easy to kill such a box. Be considerable and use the box with tested software only. Basically we can say VU genuine software released till 2011 is safe for our OEM boxes. Better do not use latest software from other sources than our support forum or web page.Comment

seeing as I have one of the very first clone boxes to hit the market. how can vu test a time bomb/clone killer till they get there clone box to test. and as they dont want to kill there own boxes they would need to test quite a few tests to run before going ahead with the bomb.Last edited by Data7; 6 January, 2012, 00:46.Comment

Clones and originals are not manufactured that far apart from a geographical point of view. I can assure you that both are on each manufacturers bench and have been for quite a while.I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas AdamsComment

I ask to advance pardon for a computer translation. I paid $ 330 for a clone with the shipment by dhl from aliexpress. The receiver takes only a single image vti 3.2, and then only after the original. All others images are not workings. Before the driver is not reached because the display shows "starting" and nothing more. I tried different options: nfi and usb mode with replacing a bootloader - nothing helps. And now, after all experiments, even the original image is not loaded. I assume that the receiver does not support the new cfe 3.0.Last edited by garry002; 6 January, 2012, 06:15.Israel, Afula. Did you do the cfe update before you loaded the other images? You will find the later cfe updates allow a larger firmware to run on the vu's. Update with this file first before you try the other images.Attached FilesComment

Vu have now posted the following warning on their website.
Caution! Vu+ Clone
Dear partners and Customers,
Vu+, unarguably the leading supplier of Linux based set top box, works relentlessly to make sure the utmost quality that you expect us to achieve. This has been the integral part of the whole operations in developing and manufacturing.
However, we recently learned that a clone of Vu+ SOLO could now be traded through illegal transaction routes from China. In responding to this grave situation, we assure you that we will take all possible legal measures to ensure that such pirated copies of Vu+ products be not traded freely. Furthermore, we have already begun a technical process via which to upgrade the algorithm of system security implemented in all Vu+ products soon.
When this upgrade is put into place, no pirated copies of Vu+ products will work. While we sincerely ask for your unilateral support in dealing with this serious matter, let us state the following aspects so that you can inform those who might be interested in Vu+ clones.
1.No software update will be possible.
2.The hardware stability of clone is very questionable.
3.No repair support will be offered for clone boxes.
Also, please be noted that SOLO clones have several points that are different from the genuine SOLO as below:Code:http://www2.vuplus.com/14-vuplus-articles/100-caution-vu-clone
