As I understand it the chipset on the bog standard sky SD box is not able to deal with the new encryption system. As such the SD channels cannot be turned off until all sky customers are upgraded to HD boxes. This relates to somewhere between 4 and 6 million boxes. As such SD channels will not be disappearing anytime soon

Use Italia as an example. Same system and sd still working after a year.

Italia lost HD in November '13 so its been 7 months. They have been blocking SD Primafila (their box office) channels over the last couple of months though. Not touched 'normal' Sly Italia SD or other SD (Eg. Fox Sports) yet so fingers crossed.

There's forkall on shy at the moment so sd will suffice for me. The world cup being on terrestial gives everyone a good few weeks to get yourself ready fire the new season. I'll be looking to get myself ready for the new season in hd... Thanks to information from Andy and the guys here. 😆

I really don't get the HD issue. I have a really nice led TV and a vu duo with auto resolution that makes SD look just fine. Thought the us open golf in SD would be a killer but it was fine. Lesson is, buy a decent TV and SD, HD, and ultrahd all look pretty dam good.

Pmsl, strangely my missus hasn't said much about my dish for a while either but she will still never admit it was my good idea to install it, I'm sure somewhere along the line it will have been her idea
