I can copy these files, but it ends with error message "can't copy..."

No, it seems that is problem with writing to Wii, not with reading from SD

Only thing I can suggest is try another SD card m8, see if that works.

Try this m8 see if it runs, stick it in the apps folder ok, then locate the wads and run them.Long shot though.

Just wanted to say a massive thanks and give mad props for the tutorial! What seemed like a daunting process at first became a simple operation thanks to this guide. And with NSMB now playing on my Wii, I'm one happy 'first time' soft modder and have one happy daughter!! (I opted for the 4.2E guide as this seemed relatively straight forward) However, getting a little cocky amidst all the excitement I decided to try a NTSC file instead of PAL, as I noticed the option for this on the 'configure' page of Uloader. Once I'd sent the wife out to purchase some 'quality' dvd-r's (she came back with dvd+r's!!) as I'd had success with my last TDK -R, I tried Rec Room Games and Cooking Mama 2 to no avail. I've put this down to the +r, but would I be right in thinking I'll be able to play 'NTSC' ? (I'm just burning Mini Desktop Racing, Pal version, on a +r just to eliminate the type of disc and format) I was also wondering how 'future proof' this soft mod is? I only use the Wii for gaming, but what about any future updates to the Wii, will these invalidate the mod? I'll be doing this to a mates console (he's been looking at mod chips and solderless solutions now his Wii is out of warranty) but I don't want to have to offer '24 hour' support if the mod stops working!!! (His tech abilities amount to zero!)
                    Once again, a massive thanks . . . . . .

Just to add to the above, Mini Desktop Racing worked! Must be the format! (PAL v NTSC)

In ULoader in the config options, set it to NTSC try 50HZs and the 60HZs option, should play back NTSC titles no problem.
Future proof, depends on Nintendo, the new mario game has the latest protection on it, thats already cracked, and should play back in your new softmodded 4.2E Wii.
If and when they bring out a newer firmware and protection, there's always a 99.9% chance rate it will be cracked within days/weeks.

I'm going nuts on this wild goose chase

                              Hiya folks,

this is my first post. Hope you're all well!

I bought a black Wii a week ago and started to read about HomeBrew and using a USB device to load backups.

I updated the menu to 4.2e. I installed Homebrew and DVDx.

It will not let me install Bootmii as boot2 and instead offers me the option of installing Bootmii as IOS. I have not done this as I would be able to back up but not restore in the event of a brick or issue.

I looked at PreLoader and tried to install 0.30. I get an error so tried 0.29 intsead - this too errors.

So now I'm wondering if a modchip is actually easier than a wild goosechase???

Can anyone help please? I'm pretty good at following instructions...

                              Thanks

                              Jay

If you have the homebrew channel on m8, skip the nand backup bit and put the rest of the files on to softmod your Wii.
Very unlikely you will brick your Wii with this tut, just read everything twice, and you'll be fine.
