Another interesting point has just been made on the WoS forum with regard to all cloned boxes. As these boxes have not been put through the legally binding safety tests etc, if the worst were to happen and a malfunction / fire were traced to these boxes your house insurance would be nullified out rite.

Not too sound pedantic but i highly doubt that your house insurance would call in the fire brigade CSI deparment to do a thorough test on 1 melted and probably crispy bit of plastic to avoid a payout.

Next thing you know a lit ciggie that starts a house fire will be tested to see if thats an illegal copied import as well

actually you would be surprised at the lengths a insurance company will go to so they dont have to pay out, and its a relatively easy task for any fire investigator to determine the source of a fire even electrical. p.s a fire investigator attends all fires or rather their aftermath.

Would insurance cover you on a lit cigarette burning down your house?

I do get what you are saying though. But also agree with RuberDuck there investigation is very intense but could it determine if the receiver is a clone or not, to them it may just look poorly built or have some issues, but at the same time many legit electronic items have caused house fires. For instance I know someones TV that went up in flames a good few years back now, that TV legit.

Thanks for the attachment after examining it they are very similar, for instance without viewing a comparison if two newbs went out and never knew much about a clone market, one bought a original and the other bought a clone and lets say they paid the same price (it is happening) they both opened there receivers up would they even notice the differences, even if they did would they even question it?

What I didnt know about the Solo is that it does not have internal HDD support. I cant see the Solo clone being much of a worry for Vu+ as for around the same price you can have a 800Pro clone that supports internal HDD.

Also my second paragraph brings me back to my first, they would have no need to open up there receiver so they are even more less likely to spot differences.

Vu+ have stated that they will put a end to these clone models, Is it possible? I doubt it. The reason for doubting it is Dream Multimedia have not managed it and it has been a battle for sometime now for them.

Do I think the Vu+ clones will have the same success as the the Dream clones? No. Why? because there is a massive price difference between a Dream original and a Dream clone, the same difference is not there with the Vu+ Originals and clones. Also look around the Dream clones are very well established and have excellent support, for proof of this you dont even need to leave DK go to the Dreambox forums were you will find the majority of threads are clone related.... go to most other sat forums and you will see the same trend.

Also on finding out that the Vu+ Solo does not have internal HDD support the clone model is dead in the water.

Another point I will raise if Ferarri are behind these receivers, Now I myself always suggest to people that they go with SIM rather than Ferarri and I am nowere near the only person that makes that suggestion. An example for you the 8000HD clone has been on the market for sometime now as far as I am aware it is mainly Ferarri 8000HD's but in all honesty I have not personally heard of a SIM 8000HD I may be wrong. Now how well do they do, does the forums constantly have 8000HD clone threads, the way we see with the 500, 800, 800Pro, 800SE... No. The end of the day Ferarri sim does not have anywere near the support the SIM has. I have also owned a Ferarri sim receiver previously the sim did its job, it did not have the same Support as SIM it was limited on images but i found one that worked for me if I remember right it was blackhole. Now theres a but.... the built quality of the receiver was way behind the 'at the time' current SIM 800Pro, the receiver overheated, kept cutting out, I sent it back, got it back again same issues sent it back for a refund (also note I do recommend a Chinese company often on here, this receiver was purchased from the UK)

My Verdict: I dont believe that there will ever be enough support for the Vu clones, I dont believe they will ever establish themselves the same as the Dream clones and I dont believe they will sell as well or have the same build quality. Rather than a SE clone being released with a sat, cable terrestrial tuner they should have stuck another sat tuner on it. Also Dream clone receivers have came a very long way, are the majority of us willing to go through trial and error again?

I think my receiver is just faulty. Because sometimes it starts and runs for a while, but suddenly starts to reboot.

unfortunately there are a lot of unscrupulous dealers out there who dont really care. once they have your money their involvement ends there and you get no after sales support. I can not stress just how important it is to find the rite dealers who offer the very best in after sales support, but you often dont know until it is far too late.

clones serve there purpose but when you compare it to buying a original box and you look at the difference in quality its night and day as is buying from a reputiable uk based dealer

I was looking for cars on Gumtree when I got bored and decided to look for used Vu+ boxes (not that I was going to buy one any time soon ).

I found a Solo clone worth ?130 on Gumtree and this seller claims to have been selling these for just over a month as soon as they were released.

At this rate, I can see Vu+ clones becoming more mainstream if everybody starts to sell them this cheap. (After all, clones are made popular for their price, why else would you buy a clone?)
