ok so bobs my uncle, got the power light on the dish, and it moved, so iv reset to 0, so here is the dish, now am i right in thinking the top of the motor has to be at the top of the mount and the top of dish bracket inline with the other 2? 63675_10152554311767907_1106037147_n.jpg
looks reasonable to me (didnt really understand your questions though)
the upright of the L bracket has to be "plumb" in every direction
the motor bracket can be fixed where you placed it or higher like maybe in the middle but it is probably stronger where it is near the elbow
I am not sure where the dish mount fits but that may not matter
now if you have the motor on zero, if you were able to look from the lnb end into the dish face all of it should align all the way back to the wall
so on your picture it would be in alignment from left to right
the dish would be almost vertical for thor, not leaning back as in your case
the lnb would have zero skew , so the coax cable would come straight down (not skewed left or right)
the hardest part to work out now is where it points according to your longitude , unless your longitude is about 0.8 west that is
if your longitude is say 1 west, the motor zero marker would point at thor
lets assume you were at 5 west, then your motor zero marker would point at 5w and that is your lineup sat
but usually you use thor as I suspect you may be between 1e and 3w
ideally, your box has a channel list in it and using usals, so you connect the motor and select 1w and the motor turns and goes there
once stopped, you turn off the box, put the motor cable directly on the lnb as mentioned earlier and power up the box with any meter attached
your motor should be locked on your latitude, which is say 54 or whatever (this is never altered from now on)
your dish would be on something like 27 degrees, but may be different
now you find thor, bbc world news for example by moving the motor left right where its on the elbow and the dish mount to tilt it back and forwards
peak the signal once found, then lock it all up and reconnect the motor and test using various sats like 30w and 42e
fine tune until you get good signals across the arc, then tighten up securely
the tilt back is because of the latitude of the motor i think, ill try set it as straight as possible on the dish adjuster. i cant of done this right as when i move the dish to 1w

this is how my dish looks when moved to thor 1w. i dont think this is right is it. right re did my lat on long and now it points the wrong way to astra, have i put my motor upside down do you think?

I am not been funny pal but if we get them winds back that dish will be on the floor or some ones head, how have you moved the dish to 1west the angle of the dish will not changed if you have moved it on the pole like you need to do.
That's why I said if the motor is at 0 its the last think you need to worry about untill you get a lock on one west then you can tweak to your location with motor on,
Go and buy some t and k and a pole that bracket is no good it will blow off and I can see its under a door.
ok mate cheers for the advice, didnt fully understand what you meant yesterday as you can imagine i was getting stressed with things not working properly but im learning now, itsa good to have a community that helps and points out the mistakes
We have all done it pal that's why I try to keep things simple, send it back to 0 then just put cable straight from lnb to set top box until you lock 0.8 west, I am going out for a beer good luck have fun
firstly i dont know were your based but the elevation seems high on the dish face..... also the dish should be ok on that L bracket as its not exposed and only a small dish although T+K,s are always best. the key is to take your time and check each checkpoint in turn... its then a case of moving the entire thing slowly left and right until you pick up thor@1west, if not move the dish elevation slightly(1 or 2 mm) down or up and repeat the process. regards mdt

From looking at the photo you posted and as everyone else has suggested your dish elevation is way out and it looks like you have applied 'Skew' to the LNB which there should be none.
And i assume that when installed the Pole mount and the way your motor is pointing is also directly south
