you can line it up on any sat you like

but as your location is about 3w you should really try to line it up on thor at 0.8w or the sat at 5w as these are close to your zero marker on the motor

if using the same alignment as your sly dish , is astra 2 , not astra (astra is 19e not 28.2e)

ideally you should have marked the pole mount , motor , dish mount etc with a black marker when you had it on thor and the motor was showing 2 east

not sure if this might be causing a problem, just noticed the motor arm is slightly moree to the left and not dead straight in the middle

should be spot on in the middle, no deviation left or right, then locked up and left alone, never altered again

once the lot is in alignment, the motor is locked on 54 degrees in your case and again never altered

the lnb cable will point straight down , no skew

so then the only movement is done on the main motor to L bracket mount (left or right) near the elbow ; and the dish elevation bracket (up or down) , starting around 27 degrees for dish elevation

right so being the tool i am i still havent got this fully working, but made a breakthrough, took it all off the wall today and got reajusted the motor the best it would go, now i have this fine specimin of a sly satelite signal, before i adjusted best i could get was 64%. now the other thing is i set to 1w, set it according to my compass on phone and couldnt get anything, so getting stressed i moved it to astra 28.8 and on the way there it breifly picks up a signal, so in short, im a step closer but far away still

your compass gives you magnetic details , whereas we use true details where the greenwich meridian is used for the satellite positions

at no time were you advised to use compass readings , but true readings , like thor being 2 degrees east of you , and sly (astra 2) being 30 degrees east of you

its all been explained in this thread previously and I dont really think I could tell you more than there already is in here

One way of getting a marker on true south is to go back to basics

The Earth spins at 15 degrees per hour, so the sun is at due south at 0 degrees @12 noon
The OP is at 3 degrees west so the sun is due south 12 minutes later

Pick a day when there's some sun (I know) and drive a stake of some sort in the garden
The shadow that the stake casts at 12:12 is due south, mark the line the shadow has cast.

If you can pick a good spot for the stake you can get a good sight of it from behind the dish

WOW.this is a long thread haha,I would know all about this ginge cause these boys helped me set mine up,with many many problems, which in the end wernt problems at all.
Somethings so far seem to be adding to the confusion, theres no need to mess about with the lnb, just fix it in the bracket straight, all this adds to the frustration, keep it simple.
I know how confusing it can get at 1st,but once youve done it its very simple and you wonder what all the fuss was about.Im going to give my bobs worth,in simple anyone can understand terms.
Im sorry if anyone else has already posted any of these, but only trying to help using simple terms.

Goto box,set your long and lat correctly.
Using remote send dish to 0.8 thor
goto dishpointer.com and enter your address ,then zoom in and place the X on the screen exactly where you have the dish, then change dropdown bar to thor 0.8.
Take a look where the line points and make a mental note. This is where the dish goto point.
Attach you satellite meter and get outside and remember where 0.8w was off of dishpointer.
Trial and error now, just move dish slowly,up and down, side to side.......get someone to watch tv to see if you have the right sat(bbc news channel 0.8w).
Once youve found thor, the box knows, the motor knows.Tighetne everything up,TIGHT
If theres any problems moving satellites after that, the dish is not on a plumb pole.

Its really easy but can be horrible at 1st

                    GL
