Not good mate - about out of options now.

Funny I can reload the secret file and bootloader via serial bu then nothing after that. DOes not seem to want to fire up the USBs.

On the ferrari forum someone suggested doing and "erase" after the UpdateAllFlash.exe, so that has confused me.
Clarity here would be nice - Do I also need to do an erase after the UpdateAllFlash or not??

So far I have been reloading the (probably un-needed) secret file . Ran the UpdateAllFlash with the .bin file. Then many, many attempts at loading the image via USB.

I also got hold of the Vu-util app and tried to force-feed the Vix .nfi image up the serial lead into the box to avoid the USB bit. But it stops each time at the "Enter CFE load" bit

I have tried more usb drives, powered and unpowered. The last suggestion someone gave me was to load via a microSD + adapter.
After that I am out of options

Do you get a message along the lines of "Loading USB" or something similar when the box boots? When I boot as I have a USB stick in the back for picons it always displays that message.

Also for me it worked fine with the first USB stick I had at hand which was a 1gb way old stick that I normally use with boot files for booting linux/dos. Just formatted it in W7 and copied the files onto it so it had the folders /vuplus/duo in which the new image files were.

Do you not get anything on the front display at all?

Probably useless info for you given the situation you're in but on mine the front display will have Starting... then flashes to something like Loading USB before it continues to boot.

I really don't know enough about them at the mo so I might be talking crap

Nope, nothing mate, other than single red dot/light.
This turns yellow whenever you press a remote button, then back to red, but that's about it.
Other than the apparent success with loading the bootloader via Serialit won't do anything via the USB.
And, as I say, you never ever get anything at any time on the display apart from red dot.

Interesting little side note. On Monday I had a request from PayPal to offer more info on the failure mode, after already providing the original email thread and other info.

This morning I find they have credited my Paypal account with ?25 for shipping.
OK, it won't go all the way to pay for the shipping back HK, but its more than I was expecting from them.

Appreciate there is a lot to read above - but yes, as per the thread here the seller sent me a replacement one, albeit a clone one.
                        Same fail mode.

Now bearing in mind (as you will see from prev posts) the extreme ducking and diving I went through with this box, and the fact that 2 PSUs would not power it, I am not prepared to shell out another ~?60 for an original PSU, only to find it does not fix the issue. There is no-one I know locally that can lend me one btw.

                        So its going back.

Ahhh ok I was going to offer to send you my old one to try, it was working fine just wouldn't let the box go into deep standby. It doesn't sound like that would do you any good tho.

                            Oooo. Tempting.
But it'll have to be shipped here/back and it might not work, and then there'd be tears (mine)

                            Appreciate the offer

I had the same issue your having with a solo, would take the flash stuff but just not do anything, after returning it to the factory it was a mainboard bad flash issue so certainly need to send it back sadly.
