Portbhoy has already explained in his post how it's done. The fan has 3 wires. You can choose which speed to run at according to how you want to wire it. Other than that just make sure your fan works and the box is well ventilated.

Not got an old desktop computer lying about m8, sure amd processors have a fan similar to what you are looking for on top of them, also should be a fan built onto the case thats about the size your looking for, just a thought, might be miles off worth a look though.

Evidence here of bad quality construction or storage conditions for these Vu+ Duo clones.
Removed old PSU and had a quick look again at it.
As you can see from photo there is a rusty h/shink mounting screw here. ALL other mounting screws are in similar condition. Bearing in mind I have only had this unit for a couple of weeks and it only worked for 24hrs. Plus I live in a modern house with low ambient humidity level, this hasn't happened here. This is evidence that these units PSUs (at a min) are definitely questionable.
I also found that bit of h'sink mounting that flew off when the PSU let go and have placed that on top to the h/sink for the photo.

The good news however .......... a replacement PSU has just arrived from Honk Kong.
I've fitted it, but not yet tested, as I need to go and buy another 3amp fuse for the 3-pin plug I was using. Looks like that also blew when the PSU sparked.

It's noticeable that the new PSU has no evidence of corrosion, so I am hopeful this may have a bit more life in it than the original unit.

                  Yes, and its not good.

                  Same fail mode.
Red dot on front panel. Nothing else. No power to usbs - no fan rotating.
                  ARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Question - so what next?? return the item - or is there something else I can try???
I'm assuming no usb power when power up but with only red light on the dash is not a good sign.
USB should work whether system in standby mode or not, yes???

Damn, was hoping your next post was going to be, yes I'm watching sat using the box.

You could try flashing it using the USB flash drive method, not too sure what the exact process is myself but if you have a gander round the forums I'm sure it's been mentioned. Also, the box can be very finnicky about the type of USB flash drive so if you have a couple of sticks make sure you try them all before giving up.

As before, USBs won't work mate, none of them. No power to them when red light on front.
Its looking exactly the same as before. Either I've been sent a duff PSU, or (as I think you said a while back) its not the PSU and I have a problem elsewhere, maybe on the motherboard. I could start swapping caps, but I am losing patience.

what does the red lite do when you try the remote buttone? when mine was stuck on red it would turn yellow ( at that time my vdf was just blank )

the fan only comes on once image is loading on my one ,

does your usb stick have a lite on it?
                          have you tryed differnt images?
your unziping the images before putting on usb stick??

if you have a hdd in there try it with out , man i hope you get fixed ,

Yep, whenever I press button on remote, the red light goes yellow.
Can't seem to get any power on USB drives in either front or back.
Basically same fail mode as with prev PSU
Have sata drive that was in it before, but not plugged in now. Can try it but don't hold out much hope.
Am I right in assuming that when power switched on then the USB should get power? Whether in standby or not?

                                nope mine doesnt ,
the usb for images need to be in front usb, and not other usbs pluged in ,

1 put vix image on usb ,
2 put usb in fron usb slot (NOT all the USB pen drives are working with the Vu boxes)
3 turn off power switch on the back of the box .
4 keep turing on and off intill you see the usb blinking . i had to do it a good few times then just leave it , 5 mins late usb out , switch off and on

my display was blank , the box can see the remote so theres a chance it will boot , imho
