Are you saying that I need to re-flash and the fact that I can now do web access doesn't necessarily mean that the flash worked?
Will DC unlocker still report old firmware version or should it report it as 716.11.17 etc?

The firmware should be reported as the new 716 version... When flashing the modem will make this obvious with LED blinking at least!!

If you have not gone into flash mode, you may have only partly reset the modem!!

OK will re-do in flash mode then reset and retry the EFS read.

Ok - I tried it and it unlocked successfully so thanks to Jim and also to MKAlex who did actually identify this as the unlock code from the 'non-standard' EFS dump.
At least having gone the 'long way' round I now have updated firmware as well!
One thing you guys might be able to answer is why, after the system reset, the modem reverted to an SSID of 'mikeandkatie' when I'd previously changed it from that. I can't believe that's a system default.

Very odd that 23064162 worked as it should be prefixed 01 01 in hex. I saw it in the original file but I'm loathed to get people to try codes as some devices have as few a three attempts before the games up!

I rather think that you had 'crippled' firmware that is so often used by the networks nowadays! I'm guessing that was causing most of the oddities.

It could be that settings set via the USB (Mobile Partner) interface are stored in NVR but anything set via the http interface is not...

I unlocked a few modems with the same efs

Found the nlock code for my Huawei 5832s

Thank you guys! I have downloaded EFS info and found my unlock code as the first string of 8 numbers.
My Huawei 5832s is now unlocked.

Where can I find a decent firmware? Tried with Netvigator E5832sUpdate_956.11.17.05.309 but cannot edit APN from the web interface and didn't tried several Mobile Partner to connect but no success...

the one Jim pointed me to in post 252 allowed me to just drop in a T-Mobile chip and connect straight away...

Try upgrading the dashboard also!

I have tried with dashboard from dc-files but it didn't work, think there are some issues between Win 7 and Huawei drivers.

If you flash E5830 firmware to a E5832s you will kill it!
