The Fan in these clones is pretty much worthless from what i can see and they are installed to draw the Hot Air out and keep the box cool, It never worked for me correctly so i decided to switch the fan round and have cool air blowing in directly over the PSU area which worked far better as that kept that area cool while the only heat i could tell came from the Tuner side of the board.

Judging by the fact that the PSU can blow and some of the components on the mobo near the hard drive can also fry it seems that the clone needs a dm800se type overhead fan mod done to it so that a much larger fan blast outside air in to keep the thing cool.

The larger fan would also be a lot quieter than the current, I assume 60mm fan.

Yes, I'm sure heat is part of the issue here, and to be honest I did not think to check if fan was spinning when I first plugged it it. Hindsight and all that.

Which particuar mod are you talking about. There a number of cooling mod threads on various forums. Is it one on this thread??

i.e the strategic use of an overhead IDE drive cooler.
If so I can see there are vents above the top front left of the casing (above the HDD I assume). and some a bit further back on the bottom of the case.
There are no vent holes above the PSU.

Sorry, I was typing hypothetically i.e. cut a hole in the top of the casing an plop in a say 12cm fan, that should keep things nice and cool

I replaced the fan on my Duo recently (noise was driving me nuts) with a fractal 50mm fan cost me a fiver runs super quiet and the box is super cold. So I don't think cutting big holes in the case is the answer, a fan that is up to the job is.

Out of interest - is your unit original or clone

                    If you need the fan

Thats the baby It pulls more air through I found with the old fan even if the top of the box felt cold underneath was hot especially around the CPU. But that fan solved the lot and it really is whisper quiet.

That seems to be a 3 wire fan, with extra yellow wire.

I assume yellow wire is taped up (unused) and new fan wire (with 3 wire connector removed) is connected to orig fan wire (shortened) via a couple of wire connectors (couple of low amp'age terminal connector blocks for example)
If you see what I mean.....

Should be simpler than that, you just plug the 3 wire connector into the 2 wire so that the yellow wire portion of the fan connector overhangs the connector on the mobo, if you know what I mean

Na that dont work that was my 1st idea, but if you poke at the rear of the connector you can get the inner metal piece to come out just do the same with the old connector and slide the new ones in. Use red and black or if you want the fan to spin at a lower rpm then red and yellow.

This is the same fan as the one on fleabay. The cheapest I could find it was Fractal Design 7350041080107 Silent Series 50mm Case Fan
