Paid via PayPal, so still have that in my back pocket.

@meggiedude i took it as you were going to the local shop as you said you were "going back to the shop" but seeing as its from PRC/HK then put a paypal claim in asap as most of them ignore you or give you the run around untill their paypal account is frozen... i bet you if you escalate your claim then the supplier will contact you straight away. tell them you are a member on all the forums and you will slate their name all over them and they will lose plenty of sales if they dont sort it now, regards mdt

Yes - I was coming to that conclusion. As Its Paypal I know if you leave this too long it can slip outside of the the Paypal guarantee if you are not careful
I got 3 emails in to them since the problem occurred as "evidence" of attempted dialogue.
I was not expecting a response and haven't had any. On the flip side of the coin when I ordered the item I got a response almost immediately, so clearly they have read and dismissed all 3 emails I have sent them.
Claim is going in the morning.
The threat on the forums also valid. I'm sure if they know that they will lose out a lot more than they gain from from resolving my claim they may think twice, but TBH I think the Paypal side of things is more likely to swing their arm.

EDIT - claim now raised with Paypal for full refund.

Didn't realise this was a brand new box, you've done the right thing by lodging a Paypal claim, they'll hopefully sort you out now.

            Ha, how amusing.
Nothing from HK supplier for days.
Then raise Paypal dispute and I get the following within hours.
            hello
what is the problem for the box ?
why make dispute on paypal ?

I've politely replied, point out all the pertinent facts, including the fact I know the rules of Paypal guarantees.

We'll we how this little game continues

Can you post some pics of the damaged area, nothing more than being nosey but I'd be very interested in seeing the damaged components.

Will have a go, but away from home at moment. Wednesday is earliest I can look at this. Not sure what this is going to show mind as the PSU letting go resulted in portion of heat sink mount flying off. Hopefully I didn't bin it.

Any pics, it might be possible to try a repair which might be cheaper than sending the entire box back. Also have you asked the supplier about sending out a replacement PSU?

Sorry, Haven't got round to this. The damage is between what I assume to me a transformer coil and one of the heatsinks (which I have no idea what that is cooling).
BTH the damage is not great. I just hope I did not throw away the bit that flew off.

Yes I asked for a new PSU in all of my emails to the supplier - no joy.
                        Still silence at this point.

I will be informing them I will name and shame them big style soon unless they pull their finger out and quick.

                            Finally got round to this.
Looked like I threw the small bit of heatsink mount that flew off. Sorry.
Only visible damage I could see was what looked on the primary side of the PSU (circled).
Removed PSU and could not see any damage on the back side of the board.
On the detailed pic, you can (hopefully) see that part of the outer casing of the heatsink mount has blown off, The internal metal connections can be just about seen. I can only assumed the transformer (??) next to it has arc'd across to this connection.

                              Any news on the replacement?

This is going to sound weird but when you've received the replacement and if you are going to bin the faulty I'd be very interested in the blown PSU so that I can have a look at it to see why these things keep on blowing. There must be 1 or 2 components in the PSU that just aren't rated correctly or the motherboard draws more power than the PSU can supply.

IF you compare your pic to an official PSU the heatsink on the blown component on the official PSU is around 2.5 times longer so could it be that that component just gets too hot?

Was the fan in your box working?
